Michele Alboreto coming in 11-15th place repeatedly in the IRL bad years was also humorous.

Nige loving owned though. I still maintain he was proof of time travel and Alan Turing invented it in WWII. Dude was SO British.

Alain Post posted:Considering that John Surtees was a thing, I kind of wonder if the US motorcycle scene in its glory days could have produced a good driver. Maybe that was over by the 80s (though Johnny Cecotto actually made it to F1, at least). Aaron Slight wasn't too bad a tin-top racer either (although not American of course). Smacked F1 thread favourite Tom Chilton in the face when they were teammates in the BTCC.

Smoke wouldn't have made it in F1 because Bernie would've gotten in the ear of whoever was his team boss to sabotage him. Duh.

Coyne will be testing Alexander Rossi (american). He was quick in lower series and has some wins in GP3/Formula Renault/GP2. Looks pretty solid that Wilson has moved on.

I was kind of convinced that Rossi was going to end up a driver at some backmarker F1 team for a year...fail and then wind up in NASCAR. I'm a tad surprised he's bailed on F1 and went here considering the comments he threw out a few years back, but I mean this should be interesting. Will he be good? I don't know. But it's kind of nice that the (once) three biggest critics of open wheel racing in the driving ranks (JV, JM, and Rossi) are currently involved in the series in some manner. (I'd love to see JV give it one last go, though I know he doesn't have much left....should have came back in 06...). We'll see I guess. It at least seems that Indy isn't having trouble on the front in terms of skills being applicable to the style of driving at least. We may not be getting the next Gordon's or Stewart's of the world, but if we can at least get the next Rahal's and Sullivan's? That's drat good for the series

So this is how far the Indy 500 has fallen out of the public. In Jeopardy, a question of the month and what series of sport and answer what major thing happens. When May and Open Wheel Racing happens, no one answered.
