I sometimes use the screen for decoys or for making the players not be too into the meta. For example, I'll roll for nothing behind the screen as the PC's are exploring. Do you keep your NPC/monster stats in the open for PC's to see? I think it adds more of a surprise if the kobold with the sword suddenly stops swinging and starts casting a spell (as opposed to full disclosure of monster stats).
