So, the spring round started this Friday, and this is what we did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEOPYGnfFhg The banner reads "Sorry, that's our climate" with an image of a burning car with TVN Meteo markings. This is a triple entendre, let me explain: 1. When the railways literally ground to a halt during this winter due to record freezing temperatures and snow, the transport minister remarked "Sorry, that's our climate". The phrase also has another meaning, that could be interpreted as "Sorry, that's just the way we are". 2. ITI was a company that owned Legia as recently as last year. It was universally loathed by Legia ultras and I'd guess a lot of regular fans as well. TVN is the television network that is owned in part by ITI, which leads to... 3. In street clashes in 2011 between Legia hools, nationalists and the police during an Independance Day march, a TVN news van was set alight. Oh yeah, to top it all off, we just got word the "Razor" (the stand where the ultras sit) as it is affectionately called has been closed for the next home game and we're obviously getting fined. Good times. mackintosh fucked around with this message at 00:24 on Feb 17, 2014 |

There's more to being an ultra than just amazing stadium displays. There's also street art. Sure, most of it is rather mundane and monothematic and consists largely of suggestions the other team likes prison bummings, but occasionaly and more often than not in Warsaw, these murals are patriotic in nature. This particular one, made by Legia fans, appeared a few months back to commemorate this years' 70th anniversary of one of the most tragic events in both Warsaw and Poland's history - the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. I won't bore you with details, suffice to say Warsaw was literally burnt to the ground and 200,000 civilians perished along with most of those involved in the fighting. It's dedicated to the Children of Warsaw, battalions of youths, some as young as 10, who fought in the uprising. The writing on it says "Dzieci Warszawy" (Children of Warsaw") and "Pamiętamy" (We Remember). If you're interested how the rest of Warsaw commemorates this momentous yet somber occasion, this little video sums it up better than any words could and hopefully shows how much it means to us to have been born in this city, to be the caretakers of its history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ejd2rsXoQSI

That's really cool, thanks for sharing. Ultras here just write their names on walls with shoe polish so we don't have any of that.

I've wanted to post this mural for a while now, just never got around to cycling to that part of town. Not sure if there are any like this in other cities, Warsaw is a bit special due to its history and Legia ultras & fans are very patriotic - in a positive way.

If we're talking street art I have to mention Kamp Seedorf, a street art collective from Amsterdam/Almere that does all kinds of football related pieces.

What happens when ultras get their stand closed and they are themselves banned from a game for using flares? Why you assemble at a nearby cafe and proceed to launch lit flares on parachutes onto the field, of course. As much as I hate Wisla Kraków, hats off, you incredible bunch of cunts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3PFxdQOnv4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5MsIK3qaPA

No idea what their stadium looks like now, it isn't all that far away, but I haven't been there since they got relegated from the Ekstraklasa. It's unlikely Legia are going to play them any time soon. They're like in division 2 now. It's a long way back from there.

dj_pain posted:This is last thing PSG ultras before the $$$ forced them out. Welp, at least they went out with a bang. Can't imagine our ultras ever being forced out by money. When the former ownership tried to impose their will and rules over the Razor end, the ultras refused to cheer for the team and the stadium was literally silent for over a year. The new owners seem to be resigned to the ultras running riot every now and then, but I have to hand it to them, they've been behaving over the past few games.

The PSG ultras didn't get forced out because of money they got forced out because they were a dangerous, extremist (and murderous)gangs that fought amongst eachother. Sydney FC fareweled Captain and 9 year rock of the club, Terry McFlynn: Pretty painstaking detail "Saint Terry"

As a protest against the Swedish Football Association and modern football, the arena was dead quite for 10 min, then followed the derby tifos from both Djurgårdens IF and AIK. In the beginning of the second half both sides lightened flares and knowing there would be a stop in play, they screamed "SvFF - Football killers".
