If any of my fellow Canucks are reading this and its piquing your interest, check out NAVCanada's website. NAVCAN is a bit weird because its Canada's privatized ATC service provider and runs independently of the government. In 1996 an Act of Parliament created the private, not-for-profit corporation that owns and operates Canada's entire civil air navigation system without any government funding. The Crown is, however, the only shareholder. I'm an outsider (pilot), but from what I've heard NAVCanada has never really stopped hiring and has a massive backlog of people eligible for retirement but being bribed with bonuses to continue working because they don't have enough replacements. When I did a tower tour a year or so back they were practically begging our entire group to apply. Check out their site, it seems like a pretty sweet gig. I am more interested in flying than controlling, but I put in an application a few days back just to see what happens.
