wmv files are encoded with 8bpc rgb values from 16-235 but should be mapped to 0-255 when displayed on an RGB display like your monitor. when you calibrate a rec.709 display you are supposed to set black to 16 and white to 235. tl;dr mpc-hc is right

so even if you use a LUT to map TV levels back to RGB you still lose a bit of dynamic range in the lower and upper most brighness levels right? i mean you map 219 (lol) values to 255 values so you have to invent 36 values that you don't actually have the information for. in conclusion: wmv sucks e: oh wait it's 220 and 35 but w/e

i dont get saving uncompressed 4k video files. i mean come on, think of the harddrive space youre wasting! when i think of bigass video files, i remember a quote from the great Steve Jobs (web designer at Pixar!), who said, "360p ought to be enough for anyone". now, why would someone who works at Pixar (a movie company!) say something like that if it werent true??

i copied the settings for my tv's picture from a cnet article and then watch my content in plex on it. i cant use the sync display refresh rate to con tent frame rate feature tho because for some reason it makes the audio go hilariously out of sync

When you expand the values you may introduce banding if you aren't dithering since the steps will be more noticeable. but if you're on a 6-bpc or FR panel it will dither anyway so sall good

when I did that cutout in photoshop I used the find quick selection tool and it cut into the traffic cone and i was going to fix it and then i said to myself: "nah, it will be a deep expression of the shittyness that VLC is" and left it
