I read Lessing's Golden Notebook and really liked it, definitely check that out some time!

As far as Orhan Pamuk is concerned, he is probably the writer on the "unknown" list that I see the most books of at bookstores. My Name is Red is a great book. I also read Istanbul, but it didn't grip me that much.

Solzhenizyn's One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich left a really strong impression on me. It is much shorter than Archipelag Gulag but does a great job of vividly displaying the poo poo life of gulag inmates.
