Are anti-bomber instacanes still used in fleets in small numbers as an anti-bomber force? Are they still useful vs Interceptors?

Why would player made star gates make much difference? Granted, VFK to anywhere in gate range would be nice, but jump bridges do that pretty much already, and you're still limited to region gates. Unless they said it's going to lead to new area's to live in? Does it go back to Earth?

You don't make money from a TV show or movie. You make money from selling the merchandising from it. With the new changes to jump bridges, is it still possible to get from EC- to Deklien in 3 bridges/6 jumps or so? Or do you need to take gates with the fatigue mechanic? If I was at the far end of Deklien, would it be possible to use bridges to get to YA0 or would fatigue kick in before that?

So with the changes CCP did, is nullsec going to have any big wars? From what I've read it sounds like everyone withdrew away from each other and it's too far to gate anywhere, and there is no need or wish to invade anyone else's space. None of the collations have broken up, so everything is still stagnate? The only roaming fleets are interceptors, but Deklien is so far away from anyone that's it's now dead quiet.

Or is it still too early to say, or we need to wait for another 2-3 expansions firsr?

I currently think that Digi is trying to get a part made about him in the Eve TV show. If Alan Sorkin writes it, the other characters will be in a meeting having sniping comments at each other when someone will point at a monitor and "dramatic news report is on screen" scene occurs, completely derailing the plot of the episode.

Reading Mittani.com so you don't have to write for it made me smile today. I hope he gives it a good go, I never did bother moving my stuff out of VFK last time I quit.

Part of it is that they changed the probing mechanics slightly in Odyssey, and a lot of the public information is no longer accurate.

And even once you get past that, it's surprising how poorly the public understands probing mechanics. The average Eve player's approach is "throw money at it (in the form of Virtues, Sisters launchers, etc) until it starts working."

Why wouldn't that be the answer? For an alliance that wanted to give everyone a free carrier, a couple of high cost probe ships and pilots with implants seems insignificant.

I do like the idea that entire fleets may need to stand down because that one high cost Fleet Scout just got pointed by a frigate when it was jumping in via a gate, but I suppose those days don't happen much any more with Blops bridging and FC's running multiple accounts at all times (feel free for anyone to give an entertaining story of this actually happening in the last year or so, but I haven't seen any).

Most surprisingly of all, once CCP received payment for damages, they reversed all the permanent bans. All of them. Instead, the people named in Theo’s mail got a mixture of three- to six-month temporary bans, and the prohibitions on attending future EVE events was lifted. For that again, CCP Falcon was in large part responsible. He figured that since they did indeed come forward and since damages were paid, that it showed a measure of good faith that CCP would honor with good faith in return, all while keeping the matter confidential.

Considering 2 of them did it (and directly tried to frame an innocent 3rd party for a criminal act of Vandalism which could have gone to the Police), and the other 2 then agreed to cover up for their friends, I do not understand why any of them were unbanned. Because they admitted to doing it? When there were lots of witnesses and evidence to prove it was them in the first place? Not sending them to the Authorities was a merciful act by itself.

I also can't explain why the random guy from SA who used the same name is still permabanned?

Apparently, Rayonar wasn't that happy with Goons, and said so in what he thought were private communications. Goons used his mistake to eliminate a possible dissenter. Do they have keyloggers on our computers? I've already changed passwords to everything in my life and wiped my computer, and am considering moving when my lease is up. The fact that a video game caused this kind of fear makes me think the entirety of GIA should go to jail IRL.

So does that mean they just need to check who just changed their passwords on goonfleet.com?

Though it wouldn't surprise me if the guy told someone "I'm unhappy with Goonswarm/CFC/Space Monkeys" to someone, and someone else took that to mean BETRAYAL after the guy made a mistake. Considering he was in a very high position, I can't recall anyone who has voluntarily stepped down from such a precipice. Academic Paper (published!) on Emitexts and Paratexts:Propaganda in EVE Online.

quote:

Emitexts and Paratexts:Propaganda in EVE Online
Marcus Carter

Abstract
In EVE Online, powerful alliances of thousands of players wage long war campaigns over in-game sovereignty, wealth, power, and status. The larger of these wars involve—two to three battles a day across multiple time zones demanding thousands of players and considerable in-game wealth. As with real wars, the morale of combatants plays a crucial role in the success of a campaign. In this article, I discuss the propaganda produced as a component of these wars and the crucial role that it plays in EVE’s virtual warfare. Leveraging broader Internet memes; ‘‘nerd’’ tropes;in-jokes; game history; and racial, cultural, and sexist stereotypes, these evocative images serve to bolster support and demoralize opponents. I argue that propaganda can be conceptualized as a form of paratext that emerges from within the game as part of play, rather than a peripheral industry that surrounds it. Consequently,I propose the term ‘‘emitext’’ to define this persuasive media

I hope the next newbee drive thread has lots of these posters. They were always well done. Can't have a good war without one.

quote:

At the heart of all the complex machinations of these massively multiplayer virtual wars in EVE is propaganda—texts, videos, and images produced by players as persuasive communication in the service of an ideology (Burnett, 1989). Leveraging broader Internet memes; nerd tropes; in-jokes; game history; and racial, cultural, and sexist stereotypes, these evocative media serve to bolster support and demoralize opponents, crucial for victory in EVE’s hard-fought campaigns. Alliances place such emphasis on propaganda that it is taken into account when discussing strategy, and many have propaganda directors who are given prior notice of military movements so that appropriate propaganda is immediately on hand. Players producing such propaganda may even have their subscriptions to the game supported by the community as thanks for their contribution to the community.

TEST had some good video's, but them seem to have gone since the breakup with Goons. It's written by a guy from TEST. Featuring: Figure 2. Goonswarm Federation Logo (a bee).

Our story begins on Page 9, and gives a good overview I think for what happened in the last war for in the current area.

quote:

GSF is the parent Alliance for GoonWaffe (logo in Figure 2), a Corporation with an analogous informal relation-ship with the SomethingAwful.com forums, a popular online message board with a unique culture and reputation for trolling and griefing in games (see Bakioglu,2009; Dibbel, 2008). According to GSF anthropologist Richard Page (in press),Goon players go so far as to consider themselves ‘‘playing Something Awful’’ rather than EVE Online, through which their play gains additional meaning. When founded, TEST leaders had specifically chosen to occupy space as far away from GoonWaffe as possible but incorrectly read the map and instead invaded space nearby (see bad at EVE reputation, above). Shortly after crushing a TEST fleet,GoonWaffe (at the surprise of Dreddit leadership) offered a nonaggression pact, along with advice, protection, expertise, and support to the newly formed community. For several years, buoyed by their size (rather than exceptional in-game wealth or skill), these two Alliances won several large wars together and were, as the EVE colloquialism goes, ‘‘space bros.’

I had no idea TEST started (and failed) a news site.

Even has some Star Wars context, just in time for the new trailer.
