it might be one of those things where the binaries were actually tested well, but the source files are full of spaghetti written by some mechanical engineer

My aircraft simulation was working fine if it was aligned to the forward X-axis, but any change would cause it to spin out of control. I was drawing debug lines for the flight path and aircraft orientation.
