There is also an 80% off sale on Star Wars comics. Does anyone know any good reads?

Gillen's Darth Vader.

Gotham Central is about the day-to-day operations of the GCPD in a city where Batman and his rogues are active. It's fantastic.

How are the spinoffs from Coates' Black Panther run?

Well The Crew got cancelled abruptly, World of Wakanda is an anthology series (which, no thank you) and was cancelled abruptly, and Rise of just started but it has a really good comics critic writing it, so of the three I assume it's the most stable and worth your time.
I read almost everything in trade so I'm far more interested in the two cancelled ones than the ongoing.

Event-wise, where should I be heading after 52? Final Crisis?

Does Seven Soldiers count as an event?

Can someone recommend me a weighty tome to take on holiday? I'd prefer a self-contained story if possible. Previously:

2017: Multiversity
2016: Kingdom Come
2015: The Filth
2014: The Incal
2013: Midnight Nation

Thanks for any recommendations!

New Frontier. It's Darwyn Cooke's take on a 1960s Justice League and is delightful.

Is there a reading order for Morrison's pre-Nu52 Batman run? There's a lot of trades and I'd like to read them in chronological order. And I don't mind spoilers, could someone list down the major story beats?

Omnibuses are coming out that will cover it but in trade it's something like this:

Batman and Son (Deluxe)
The Black Casebook (optional backstory)
Batman RIP
Final Crisis (has a major impact on the run but is arguably not a part of it)

Batman and Robin vol 1
Batman and Robin vol 2
Time and the Batman (I like it between 1&2 but most people put it here)
Return of Bruce Wayne
Batman and Robin vol 3

Batman Incorporated.

Are the Batwoman New 52/Rebirth comics good? I only read the Detective Comics run featuring her and really liked it, but I remember some drama behind the character later and didn't keep up reading the book and was thinking about getting some of the TPBs now

From what I've seen the N52 run doesn't quite recapture the magic of the original Detective Comics run but is worth reading.

She's one of the main characters in Tynion's run of Detective Comics Rebirth, which is also nothing like her original run but is a fantastic Bat-family series.

So, who's got recommendations for me?

Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat! is another of Marvel's light and funny series, and based on the books you've read and liked I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Is there any sci fi that doesn't misuse quantum physics?

The play and movie Copenhagen are fiction about science rather than sci-fi but they do a good job with the science (slightly less with the history though).

Johnny's death is about where I dropped it because I realised the only bits I liked involved Reed.

It doesn't have to be a psychic squid. It could have been any mundane megalomaniac project, which is what it got changed to.
Veidt wants the world to unify against it, and that's easier to do with something alien like a squid than with a character previously described as an American god.
