Finished my reread of From Hell. I read it ten years ago and didn't enjoy it, the supernatural elements felt like an unwelcome distraction from an otherwise solid murder/conspiracy story. I liked it a lot more this time, especially the way Gull tries to fit his experiences into the hermetic/occult theories popular at the time and his own idiosyncratic understanding of the universe. I especially liked the contrast between Gull's mysticism and the rest of the Masons, who view their own occult traditions as flimflam and consider him a dangerous lunatic for actually believing it.
