When did Kitty turn from "mutant with no particular value" to "punching Galactus in the face"?

This was the panel that got me to buy my first comic since the 1980s. I just love that she was able to convey that the little jelly triangles were afraid of being eaten. Her stuff is consistently well drawn and expressive in a way that appeals to me.

I can remember a Fantastic Four run where they set Galactus upon some other cosmic rear end in a top hat in a battle over who gets to eat the Earth and I was expecting some good fightin' but of course it ends with Reed bringing out the goddamn Ultimate Nullifier again, or something that looked like an Ultimate Nullifier. Galactus should just find the factory that makes them and eat it.

TollTheHounds posted:I've always been a Marvel guy for some reason, I just missed the boat on DC and so have never really been able to get into any of the characters even Superman. Is it just me or is all the artwork in these latest superman panels posted extra lovely? It looks like a high school art project, not a professional comic that people pay money for. I was collecting comics from both brands when I was a kid in the 1970s and 1980s and although there was definitely a different feel between them there was still plenty of talent on both sides. I think DC struggled with emerging from the 1960s, and their overly wordy and sensationalistic covers was a tedious symptom. By the time I stopped buying comics in the mid 1980s Marvel was starting to dive into the edgy side, riding the Frank Miller train all the way to the station... and beyond, Montparnasse style. Mike Grell says "Swords, guns and dinosaurs? WHY NOT?"
