Cao Ni Ma posted:Is this going to be entirely in mandarin? That would be an interesting thing to do with an anime. Nah, it's probably just this trailer, since it's called "China" (チャイナ). The first CM was entirely in Japanese. e: f;b They used the Beijing dialect of Chinese, which is pretty neat if he is from mainland China.

I've tried reading the translations of the light novels for a while but couldn't get into them at all, so I'm pretty happy about this.

StandardVC10 posted:"The little sister is a dragon and the older brother is prematurely balding" sounds like one of those randomly generated light novel titles that had a thread a few months back. Well, https://twitter.com/ln_title_bot is listed as a source.

Phobophilia posted:Sports shows seem to sell terrible unless you fill the shows with a ton of gay innuendo, I'm not sure Yuasa could offer that. Nah, you'll just need a lot of pretty, pretty boys. The gay innuendo is just a bonus; it couldn't carry a show on its own if the characters weren't attractive.

Zorak posted:Isn't the source material shoujo? Are they moving the audience or something with the adaptation? I don't normally read shoujo romance manga, but from what I've seen, a lot of them have at least one attempted rape scene (usually used as a plot device for the boyfriend to save the day or whatever). Even something as tame as Ouran High School Host Club has a scene explicitly referencing rape.

Waffleman_ posted:That is a good point. Some of the changes may seem a bit arbitrary, but it's a show for babies. It's not like 4Kids taking a show aimed for teens and trying to make it a baby show. Doraemon is already a baby show. I watched Doraemon in Japanese when I was 3 and understood it as well as I was going to. It's still a little weird to me how far they're going to Americanize a show meant for literal toddlers, because god forbid they expose children to any kind of foreign cultural context. DrSunshine posted:Every time an actor would pronounce a Japanese word, they should have cut in the audio of the original Japanese voice actor saying it instead. I feel like I don't mind too much if the VAs don't pronounce Japanese words right; I just want them to be consistent, which was an issue even with more well known words in English like yakuza in the Durarara dub. The Durarara dub also decided to keep in at least one honorific, and it sounded dumb as hell.
