Looked at Kantoku Kuyukitodoki (the one by Anno's wife). It's kinda cute and interesting and overloaded with otaku references, even if her author avatar makes no sense to me. That aside, this came up: So if Anno's one of the Four Otaku Gods, who are the other three?

One Week Friends is pretty much the anime version of 50 First Dates with anything connected to Adam Sandler excised and purged.

Eej posted:No Game No Life seemed kinda fun and interesting then the episode preview happened and then I noticed it's tagged as "Ecchi" in My Anime List and I suddenly feel kinda about the whole thing. It's Kaiji, but all of the drama and life threatening grimness is replaced with fanservice and fantasy. There's a panty flash of the 11 year old little sister who is a little too attached to her older brother and the episode ends with a buxom anime girl with only a sheet to hide her shame asking to come into the room that the two main characters are sleeping in. So a little ecchi, but calling it ecchi at this point would make Kill La Kill look like porn.

StandardVC10 posted:Tried out One Week Friends. The premise came off a little contrived based on how the characters describe it. If it's not actually so literal about what she forgets and when it could still be good though. The second episode kept me expecting another shoe to drop at any moment like her father getting rid of the diary or her disregarding the diary and the note. It must be awful to expect that. Hopefully it'll stay sweet and nice and not have any sort of BAD END.

No Game No Life episode 2 is up and we get more detail on the siblings' actual relationship and what happens when they get separated, some world building and a Jojo reference.

ViggyNash posted:This trainwreck seems to be fraught with soft-core porn and pantyshots of an 11 year old girl who her brother wishes wasn't his sister so she could be his girlfriend and who consequently used the absolute rules of the world to force a mostly naked girl to unconditionally be his girlfriend and satisfy his "sexual needs". (This all happens in the first 10 minutes of the episode, btw.) Well he is a desperate virgin so it's sorta natural for his brain to lose any sort of common sense when it comes to approaching them. His sister is likely a Bro-con though.

Sakurazuka posted:I'm always amused that that started out in the same season as Gargantia and Valvrave and ended up being by far the better mecha show. It's the weirdest thing. Gargantia had Urobuchi behind it and Valvrave had Sunrise so they had the highest expectations. MJP was prtty much the dark horse mecha series destined to come out no more than bland and forgettable. And then the season started.

So Mekaku episode 2 was a thing. Specifically a SHAFT thing. There's something interesting hiding in the shadows of this series and I think the (likely) multitudinous plot threads will begin to show where and how they interconnect in the next episode. Alternatively, it could be a gigantic clusterfuck but at least I'm not wasting it on Card Games

Allarion posted:Does it help that I said that the first episode seemed to have toned down those parts. The 2nd episode continued that trend as well of being less creepy than the source material, but a lot of people backed out regardless. Like you could have linked the LN's version of the bathhouse scene(NSFW), and you can already compare it to episode 2, which was not even close to being that creepy. At the moment, the anime seems to be going out of its way to keep the skeeviness to a minimum. The picture in the link is pretty much ten times worse than the anime so it's a definite step down from the cheesecake of the LNs. The number of steps may still be an issue though.

Clarste posted:Hataraku started strong, but you could tell it was stretching itself thin over thirteen episodes. The second half wasn't as good as the first, and I have no doubt that a sequel would be even worse. Let it stand alone as a good series. With LN adaptations, it's difficult to go at a decent clip without eventually having to stretch things out or rush things given the compact nature of the source. It's usually better to err towards the former as Hataraku did since it also allows for more material available in a potential S2 or 3

Things I'm watching this season: JoJo Ping Pong - the Sports anime that's not really a Sports anime YowaPedal - an actual Sports anime that's continuing from last season Tonari no Seki-kun Akuma no Riddle - It sits somewhere around Mirai Nikki and Danganrompa as far as drama and mind games goes. It's decent enough to keep watching GochuuUsagi - A light and comfy anime. Something to provide contrast to JoJo and Ping Pong Ishuukan Friends - A more saccharine RomCom. Also a little light. Mekaku- SHAFT! No Game No Life - A comedic version of Kaiji which is pretty much fun. Nanana's Buried Treasure - Solid series all around. The World is Still Beautiful - Less solid all around, but still interesting Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san - Yes I visit /a/, why do you ask? Puchim@s!S2 - It's essentially like watching a show about puppies run around. It's kinda adorable. Kantoku Fuyukitodoki - The anime based off of a manga by Hideaki Anno's wife. The references can get so obscure, it provides its own TN notes. Kawaisou - A comedy that's at low keep status. I might drop it if I lose interest later Love Live! S2 - Also at low keep. I already watched S1 though Why I'm not watching the other must see anime (Mushishi)? I didn't see the first one and

Lucy Heartfilia posted:In terms of romance yes. In terms of comedy no. I was mainly hoping for a comedy show with a dash of romance. It's the other way round and I don't like how the romance is done in addition to that. Edit: After watching episode 5 of Kawaisou, it's still definitely a RomCom with more comedy than romance. At least when compared to One Week Friends that is. Xelkelvos fucked around with this message at 02:35 on May 4, 2014 |

Episode 6 was subbed though and was clearly written around the time of Hurricanger as it concerns Anno's inexplicable ability to wake up at 7:30 to watch Sentai regardless of how late he sleeps.
