Endorph posted:Mekaku City Actors is based on some songs I like and there are a few neat ideas in the videos for the songs, but since they're just three-minute long PVs I'm not sure how they're going to make a full anime out of it. I think there's a manga, but I've never read it. Hm? The vocaloid guy in question has released four best-selling light novels and three manga volumes with this setting, if I understand correctly. Seems to be enough to animate something. Can't stand his songs, though.

The Black Stones posted:http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-03-21/saenai-heroine-no-sodate-kata-light-novels-get-anime-on-noitamina - Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata announced for next January. This uh, doesn't sound all that great. I can only hope it's not Guilty Crown levels of bad, or kinda boring like Natsuyuki Rendezvous was. Based off a light novel. So that's not great news. Not sure why you're bringing up Guilty Crown as an object of comparison, since they're nothing alike. Anyway, I read the first of the novels last year, and wrote down my thoughts, so I may as well spam them here for your ridicule. My light novel impressions posted:Finished reading Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata vol 1 by Maruto Fumiaki. After all the doomy gloom books, I wanted something more cheerful, and a silly romcom seemed just the ticket.

Zorak posted:"Things in the noitaminA block that don't belong in the noitaminA block" is what The Black Stones was going for, I think! Can't really disagree with that, but Noitamina's reputation has been getting pretty diluted in the past few years. And it's just so harsh to compare anything to Guilty Crown. I mean, it's Guilty Crown.

Paracelsus posted:Is The Irregular that series that went into spergy amounts of detail about an automated transit system that has two-seater pods that receive power from the track they're moving on? That's the one. It's the most insanely boring world building ever. Hopefully the anime will just show us a loving train and be done with it.

So the good news is that Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei looks and sounds very nice, with nearly all the bloated exposition mercilessly cut out. The bad news is that the incest aspect somehow sticks out ten times more when animated; the way they touch each other left me gaping. The circumstances are a bit, uh, unfortunate, but I'm feeling a reluctant admiration for how the studio is depicting intimacy in this show. It's so unusual that I can't even think of a series in recent memory with scenes like that.

Before anyone gets their hopes up about Gokukoku no Brynhildr, this is a public service announcement to say that the mangaka's previous work Nononono contains stuff that's highly disturbing. No idea how this new one will turn out, but you have been warned. Edit: Realized that the linked stuff may be way too inappropriate. darkgray fucked around with this message at 18:15 on Apr 8, 2014 |

Great Rumbler posted:Looked up that manga to see how bad it was and I was actually surprised by how good the first 15 chapters or so were. Then...really super-creepy attempted rape out of nowhere that served no purpose. And as an added bonus, it was also incredibly homophobic. Yeah, I read a few volumes because I've had a thing for ski jumping ever since I discovered Funaki Kazuyoshi back in the '90s, so I had to check out this new ski jumping manga. Only, well, it turned into something very different, so I gave up. And the first rape attempt is really mild in comparison to the poo poo that comes up later. Ironically, I wasn't even aware of it until I googled the title a couple of days ago when trying to explain to a friend how Brynhildr might take a turn for the worse eventually, with an example image. Oh well. I'm not even sure chapter 89 is legal in most Western countries.

Serious Frolicking posted:I watched the first episode of Kindaichi R, and I really can't believe that this is a popular and long-running franchise. It is just so incredibly bland. Bland protagonist, bland female lead, bland mystery. Every single plot point required a different completely stupid coincidence. The modeling agent just happened to drive by a girl who just happened to be identical to a missing model and then when that bland girl got abducted the bland protagonist just happened to find the model in a nearby park who then randomly decided to trust him completely. See, if any of those utterly stupid events hadn't happened, then blandy wouldn't have been present at a murder mystery. I've read 6 volumes of the Kindaichi manga, and watched about, uh, 500 episodes of Detective Conan. Kindaichi is way, way more gruesome and bloody. Much darker arcs. This particular anime case doesn't seem interesting at the moment, but I'm sure it'll spin out of control and have headless corpses and axes in the face soon enough! Mostly I'm curious to see if their buddy's constant video filming will prove to be a ~vital clue~ later on. My arm would hurt so bad keeping it raised like that for six hours straight.
