If anything, it's surprising this sort of thing doesn't happen with all of the female characters. It's a common trope of harem romcoms that all the girls the MC doesn't choose must continue to not only pine for him for all eternity, but also be satisfied with doing so. It's like the writers are just deathly afraid of offending the reader's (since the MC is basically a reader surrogate) delicate ego.

The only other person who wins is Y-san from Chiba Prefecture, who apparently is gonna hook up with Marika lmao

It might be just me, but I think that Komi really hated this manga and everything related to it, and now he's done with the thing he got his revenge.

because I think it's more intended that you just assume characters get over it and are supposed to exist on their own instead of being accessories to some other fucker forever.

Partly because it makes me feel better because Marika deserves the best, I know you guys agree with me there already

At least everyone seems happy. I really don't know how to make time skip endings genuinely enjoyable, so at least this one wasn't actively bad. I'm honestly just glad it's over at this point.

The Onodera part wasn't as savage as advertised, so I rescind my earlier comment. People reading a bit too much into things. Also,

I don't think anyone here hates this manga. It was above all things, an incredibly fluffy distraction, mostly. It often literally took me just 5 to 10 minutes per chapter to read, depending on my internet connection.

This one chapter took me 3 minutes to read from work.

Sunk cost fallacy, sort of. It started out as silly and pretty genuinely entertaining, and then devolved into 100% will-they-won't-they poo poo. I guess it was sort of inevitable, given the premise, but saving it for when you're ending it is a bit of a mistake, especially when you also take the time to basically kill off every other rival but the main 2.

Sunk cost fallacy and/or morbid curiosity.

Nisekoi was cute for the first, oh, 50 chapters or so. "Guy hates girl, girl hates guy, they have to pretend to be in love" is a really fun concept. But then Chitoge secretly fell in love, and then Raku fell in love with both of the girls, and everything started sliding into a wet fart of "should I say something/who do I REALLY love" that nobody gave two fucks about. But hey, Marika was still cool ... until she got Anime Cancer. Her sendoff was probably the last remotely fun thing that happened, and yet it still kept going and going and ugggghhhhhhhh

So anyway, it's done, it was kinda generic but fairly competent, good job Komi I guess.

Guy has several female friends as a child, and promises the one he is in love with that he'll marry her. Years later, he has forgotten which female friend he promised this to. He must fake being in love with another female friend, but falls in love with that one instead.

I understand it when it comes to shounen battle manga, because there's at least curiosity about what the characters' attacks/forms will do and look like. I don't really understand it when it comes to bad harem romcoms, though; there's nothing really to see and you know who the main character is going to end up with LONG before the end. I guess I can sorta understand it when there's at least some T&A fanservice, but Nisekoi didn't even have that.

Yakuza Boy wants to be normal, has had it with his Yakuza clan's zany poo poo up to here. Said boy vaguely remembers making a goofy-sounding marriage promise to a girl (Said promise girl is also the one he likes at the beginning of the story). He likes this one homely gal who's also interested in him. Then blonde tsundere girl enters the picture. Turns out that her dad and his dad made a deal to keep their underlings in check and that they're to start dating. They can barely stand each other in that particular way where you just know they're gonna end up dating for reals, but they decide to fake it. Some other girls come out of the woodwork and proceed to turn up the zany in the boy's life up the loving roof. Cliché-as-gently caress hijinks ensue, with some amazing reaction faces inserted for flavor. Eventually, boy makes up his mind and decides to start turning down all these girls to focus on the cute tsundere girl. They get together.

AND THEN THEY ALL hosed OFF-SCREEN.

What the gently caress is up with Japanese couples "dating" for literal years before kissing? Is this just a manga thing or an actual cultural one (albeit exaggerated for manga)?

Because from what I've seen, a lot of the times you see someone "getting confessed to", it's people who know jack poo poo about each other or someone confessing because the other person is pretty or popular, so it sounds more like a... proposal of courtship? If that makes any sense.

It's kinda like that. But most couples nowadays that I've met do actually know each other before actually starting to go out. Some public displays of affection still earn you weird looks at times. Again, things do change.

I dropped out of reading this as soon as Marika's fate was sealed and only came back for the finale.

It was fun at the beginning when it was utterly shameless about dragging things out and squeezing in as many cliches as possible, but then it started culling the cast and got completely asinine because it wanted me to really care about characters I straight up didn't.

Like Raku.

Man, gently caress Raku.

I'm pretty sure this is just a fictional thing. While there are probably some differences between the way dating works in Japan and in the West, they aren't nearly that extreme.

It's because seeing your wife for 3 hours a year is a sign of true love in Nisekoi. See also, Raku's mom, Chitoge's mom, Marika's mom. We don't really know anything about Onodera's father, but he's never seen on panel once despite going to Onodera's house several times.

Also depends on the target demographic. Shounen is relatively "pure", but if this were aimed at girls they'd probably have had sex by chapter 30. And the story would keep going with them cheating on each other and then making up or whatever.

Eh, there are different shoujo sub-genres. There's countless shoujo where characters go for many chapters without dating and the series ends with them finally getting together (for example Last Game, and I think the harem stuff like HanaKimi or Hana yori Dango is also like this).

I think the only difference is that there's a sub-genre of shoujo that involves a bunch of sex but isn't straight-up porn, while the same is pretty uncommon in manga targeted at boys/men (the only stuff that comes to mind are series like "Domestic na Kanojo").

Speaking of Domestic na Kanojo, it is a bad series but the one thing I do have to give it credit for is that the male lead is actually a really good looking dude with various attractive characteristics (like being an award-winning budding novelist). Unlike most shounen/seinen romance stuff, I can actually imagine a bunch of girls being interested in him.

That's another thing; they apparently go from not knowing each other to "dating" for a year before kissing and loving on the same night.

And at least he has hobbies and interests in common with bestgirl, and they did take each others virginities, too. Its fun to skim to see how much of a trainwreck it will become.

I'm really happy Nisekoi is finally over, and Chitoge won. As we all knew she would. I kinda don't even want to bother reading the last chapter but... I guess I will. For closure.
