The author is pretty much a master of teasing plot development ("I love you." *chapter break* "ZZZZZ OH WHAT I WAS ASLEEP") so I kind of doubt it.

Marika first shows up in chapter 33. And no, you haven't missed a thing, Nisekoi has great faces and some amazing characters but it's still a generic romcom. Incidentally, to put things in perspective we're 3/5ths of the way done with the anime and only at chapter 37. I'm betting the series will end at chapter 50, the play. Shaft animated it, so it's pretty. It's a faithful adaption otherwise, so if you like the manga enough to want to watch it animated then sure why not. Okay so we've got the shy girl, the tsundere, the easily embarrassed girl, the (awesome) comedy option, the underclassman, and now the not blood related "sister". Has Nisekoi hit the full spectrum of romantic archetypes yet? I'm going to take a wild guess here and say no.

Nisekoi's really generic, dunno who told you otherwise. As far as the harem genre goes it's up there, and it's at least pretty consistently amusing to read, but it's nothing special.

Honestly quality-wise Nisekoi's pretty good. It's consistently a nice/amusing read (I think the only outright bad bit was the amnesia arc), and it occasionally hits it out of the park (theatre, Chitoge's mom, Raku-sama, Ruru's great-grandfaster). It's still not anything special, but there have been far worse harem comedies.
