I don't know why this works. The premise isn't original in the slightest, and the author throws so many SHOCKING twists at us that the whole plot has sort of devolved into a convoluted blob of cliches and manga genes. Also I feel like a trashy 14 year old girl when I read it. But I can't stop reading it because it works

I honestly wouldn't put it past the author to slap her with a terminal or debilitating secret illness for the sake of drama. It's horribly cliche, but that just makes it more likely considering the oversaturation of cliches in every goddamn character. Or maybe I'm an rear end who reads into minor details too much.
