Yeah, since her arc is kinda finished, I imagine the ending will have to be "I realized I love Chitoge and I loved the idea of Onodera" and then Onodera is sad. :smith:

The way these things usually go is the other girl(s) will just say "I'm sad, but _____ is a great girl and I wish you two the best!" (even if it isn't remotely realistic given their personality and the situation). Because, ultimately, series like this are about jacking off the main character and you can't have one of the girls end up incredibly depressed/angry as a result of his actions. The other girls will simply be happy that he is happy, because they exist as nothing but stepping stones in his life.

Slowly eliminating love interests one at a time like they're on a hit list is...weird. I can't think of any other Rom Coms offhand that went this route.

It might be because of the high popularity of each of the different girls (as a result of the popularity of the series as a whole). I don't recall something like Love Hina having a bunch of fans who honestly thought there was a chance in hell of Keitarou ending up with anyone other than Narusegawa, and I don't think any of the other girls had high popularity in the sense of "I hope the MC ends up with her!", so there was no need to have some conclusion for each of them.

So, while normally you could just end the series and not give a resolution to any of the girls the MC doesn't end up with, in this case they might feel a need to give each of the girls an ending to their stories, even if it's a lovely ending.

It's funny how in shounen romantic comedies it's not enough for the protagonist to just end up with the girl he likes; all the other girls who like him must also be satisfied with his decision and continue to pine after him in silence for all eternity.

The spoilers for this chapter are out (confirmed to be last chapter) and good god:

Onodera not only loses, its shown that she's making the wedding cake for Raku and Chitoge. loving savage; she not only loses, but she has to pine for Raku for eternity while pretending to be happy that she got viciously NTR'd.

If anything, it's surprising this sort of thing doesn't happen with all of the female characters. It's a common trope of harem romcoms that all the girls the MC doesn't choose must continue to not only pine for him for all eternity, but also be satisfied with doing so. It's like the writers are just deathly afraid of offending the reader's (since the MC is basically a reader surrogate) delicate ego.

I never understood so many people following years of a manga they hate

I understand it when it comes to shounen battle manga, because there's at least curiosity about what the characters' attacks/forms will do and look like. I don't really understand it when it comes to bad harem romcoms, though; there's nothing really to see and you know who the main character is going to end up with LONG before the end. I guess I can sorta understand it when there's at least some T&A fanservice, but Nisekoi didn't even have that.

What the gently caress is up with Japanese couples "dating" for literal years before kissing? Is this just a manga thing or an actual cultural one (albeit exaggerated for manga)?

I'm pretty sure this is just a fictional thing. While there are probably some differences between the way dating works in Japan and in the West, they aren't nearly that extreme.

Also depends on the target demographic. Shounen is relatively "pure", but if this were aimed at girls they'd probably have had sex by chapter 30. And the story would keep going with them cheating on each other and then making up or whatever.

Eh, there are different shoujo sub-genres. There's countless shoujo where characters go for many chapters without dating and the series ends with them finally getting together (for example Last Game, and I think the harem stuff like HanaKimi or Hana yori Dango is also like this).

I think the only difference is that there's a sub-genre of shoujo that involves a bunch of sex but isn't straight-up porn, while the same is pretty uncommon in manga targeted at boys/men (the only stuff that comes to mind are series like "Domestic na Kanojo").

Speaking of Domestic na Kanojo, it is a bad series but the one thing I do have to give it credit for is that the male lead is actually a really good looking dude with various attractive characteristics (like being an award-winning budding novelist). Unlike most shounen/seinen romance stuff, I can actually imagine a bunch of girls being interested in him.

Every time I see Onodera in this thread i think of Punpun. Maybe Punpun actually takes place in the Nisekoi universe and his mom is Onodera.

Nisekoi's always been more about the in-the-moment delivery of silly faces and blush porn.

Shounen blush porn is scrub-tier compared with shoujo blush porn.

I'm still holding out hope for this kind of nonsense. It's probably one of the funniest manga-related things I've seen, and I'm very sad this isn't on batoto so someone can eventually upload one.

Knowing nothing about the manga as a whole, from looking at just the real last chapter and fan last chapter of this it looks like the long/dark-haired one was the typical "main shounen romance girl", so it seems like the real ending actually went against grain by having the main character hook back up with the short-hair girl (which is usually just one of the random love interests).

Was real ending something unexpected?

edit: lol at the part in the fan chapter where short-hair just fucks off to France after being dumped
