So just use N slimes as they are and boost R slimes to S is this a good idea? What would you do?

Got to say this game has some great depth. The Monster fusion combo system can easily swing hard fights into your favor. The 2xFire Salamander combo gives everyone a Attack and defense boost. What factors allow a card to fuse in battle? So far I've noticed. -Same monsters -Same monsters at different points in their evolution.
