Exactly, it's like Logan's Run. Dropping dwarves in lava is very important for efficiency. And you've just given me a great idea for a fort: outdoor, jungle, step pyramids. For some reason I really enjoy building remakes of ancient civilizations in this, I already made a 200 dwarf Egyptian style city with a great pyramid and lashers to keep the unruly dwarves in line.

How come in adventure mode I'm forever finding cool terrain, waterfalls, gorges and stuff like that but for the life of me every fort I start is on a flat-ish area with ponds and a cliff face.

I hope you can infiltrate the dwarven afterlife and meet your old buddies from fortress mode. And kill them again.

If you dump a barrel of booze onto a bit of lava, will it explode like a bomb?

Call me Is there a way to hunt beasts from the sea? I was thinking crossbows/ballistas might allow me to do a good port town with real whaling action.

I was hoping the corpse might wash onto land naturally, rather than sink, and then could be laboriously dragged to a butchers by a dwarf. I imagine hauling a whale is about 100 times as slow as dragging a golden statue, which is already pretty drat slow. Your method sounds good, very dwarfy and dangerous to those involved. challenge accepted. edit: drat I just saw fargo's post. I reckon I can do it better than that, although wardogs fighting sharks is an excellent uh feature of the fort. buckets of buckets fucked around with this message at 18:57 on Aug 8, 2014 |

Yeah I wish they'd just bring cages, that way I can get my orangutan breeding program under way. The end goal being a fortress where apes are served by dwarves.

Tunicate posted:Hallways are unnecessary, after all. Just segment them into additional bedrooms. Yeah I like bedrooms leading to bedrooms, irregular sized rooms, gives the place a real slum warren feel that contrasts nicely with my golden throne rooms and great pyramids.

Sergeant_Crunch posted:The ant nest expands. I've done some major bedroom expansions and given most of my dwarves a proper room with some storage. I also added in some small things like a burial area, the beginnings of a jail for my justice system, another still, and a small hospital. I tested out building a paved road, but the texture is completely hosed up so I may just use flooring for the roads. I've also ramped up food/drink production to start building my stockpile in case of a large siege. Now I get to do the fun stuff like flooring the whole fort now that I have some jobless migrants. I'm starting to feel the size of the area I dug out so I may start building some basic facilities like bedroom complexes and whatnot on the lower z levels. nice tileset ya wuss!!
