Well I know that there are a minimum of two Braves hammering at one point if there's three or more working. I know is does nothing, but having a timer does absolutely nothing, just wastes your time in waiting around . And sometimes the timer is bugged when they hammer away for minutes at a time, I swear. It's weird.

This level.

This level is painful. The Dakini have a massive, huge giant base and force (that's hidden entirely by the fog of war), and unless you specifically plan for it and rush, they will get the Armageddon spell. The other tribes, meanwhile, will try to attack the Dakini (sort of) and will run into your tribe first, and decide "gently caress it, I'll just attack here and save myself the walk back". You're effectively surrounded and under siege.

My strategy the first time I won was to just raise as much land as possible, build up a massive force of my own, and wait for the Dakini to cast Armageddon.

I'm pretty sure one of my more recent runs I played this level straight though. Getting Armageddon and just not casting it in favour of taking out the tribes one by one.

This LP is making me want to play this game all over again... I still have it on CD somewhere, but if I recall right it's a bitch to get to work on newer OSs. Why isn't it on Steam yet?

Also Crosspeice you seem to be suffering from early Niggurath snydrome with all those rathers, fairlies and quites. Apart from that good LP!

The GOG version seems to work properly on a modern system and also includes the expansion Undiscovered Worlds. You just missed a sale, but it's still fairly cheap.

My copy works just fine on Windows 7, with a couple display issues, but they don't turn up in recording. Fraps doesn't like recording the loading between things, such as the menu to tutorial, it distorts the image somewhat. Otherwise, works a charm, grab it, love it.

As an alternative to Teleport, you can also get your Shaman to the yellow tribe on foot. Build a guard tower near the spawn point, as close to your ally's base as possible. The extra height puts you just within range for Landbridge to reach.

Tower Landbridge is one of the neatest tricks in this game.

Quack
When wood is low or i need an important building done asap i just gather 5-10 braves, my shaman and maybe small escort and waltz into or right next to enemy territory, chop down 10 wood and run all of it back and drop it all off at my building site. The braves will then use the wood very quickly and the building will be built really fast and with the enemies wood, win win. Infact i do this even when i have trees left, since those trees tend to be chopped for hut upgrades anyway.

Sweet, that makes Teleport even more useless, I'll show it off in a bonus video.

Thankfully you tend to have enough wood in most levels aside from a few. It's honestly something I've never thought of doing, mainly because I'm a big wuss, but also from now on, we won't really be able to just walk into the enemy's fully formed, defended base and nick some trees, but for other earlier levels, that can be pretty handy.

Since my co-commentator has been having some internet issues, we haven't been able to record the alternatives for levels 16 and 18, so I'll get them up whenever we can. In the mean time, let's continue on our journey, then revisit level 17 for a bit of fun.

I barely remember playing or beating level 20. The next level is the one that stopped me for quite a while, because gently caress enemy volcanoes.

Crosspeice
Aug 9, 2013

I quite like Level 20 myself, it's one of the few levels that restricts the land you have and punishes players who like using Firewarriors + Balloons.

And, uh, I don't find Level 21 all too hard, as you'll see, hyuk hyuk. :smug:

Edit: Ah yes, I could have quite happily ignored that Totem Pole since it doesn't come close to your settlement if you build it in the similar direction as mine. The worst thing it does is burn a load of trees and kill some Wildmen. The second volcano, however, does affect your settlement (if one's really built) and damages quite a bit of land. The third one, as you see, doesn't affect you either, neither does the other one I received notification of. (That one I noticed in editing, bottom of the screen at 2:53) The one from the VoK kinda helps you. I don't know of any other volcanoes, but it's been a while since I spent a long time in that level.

Turtling and building up an army while you harass the enemy is fun in this game like no other. I never got past stage 14 or 15, don't remember which, so I'll be following along to see the end and the expansion I missed. The special stages like this last one are pretty interesting.

I didn't know some spells were strictly temporary though, good lord Armageddon is boss.

I had to learn to rush to be able to win that level. The first time I played I was all about turtling, and could never manage to stop the most annoying environmental volcanoes from going off in time.

In hindsight, this is a pretty easy level (they all kind of are), but I still dislike this level for stopping me so long ago.

Nope! All the other LPs I've checked work just fine too, hence my confusion. I see the links fine if I quote the post but it's not working on a click. Very weird.

Anyway, I've got all the bonus footage recorded so the main game will be finished by sometime next week. So would anyone be willing to get some footage of the PS1 version and join me in commentating it? I would like to hear someone's side of only playing the PS1 version, to contrast with PC supremacy. :v:

Try to have two spells open for mana instead of just one so that when the first is finished you are already starting on the other. Watching the bar flash red for minutes at a time annoys me far more than it should.

Crosspeice
Aug 9, 2013

It annoys me too and I'm usually pretty good at keeping my spells going, but I have a real one track mind that doesn't apply fantastically to this kind of game. I said I've played this game for years, doesn't mean I'm good. :v:

But I'll try that out in the expansion, since I like keeping the bar at full, even if there's no tactical reason.

Honestly though the last few levels are pretty fun. Solo is a good puzzle level that's not that hard, and Inferno gives you plenty of space and all the spells.

The last level is a whole lot of fun. Actually the last two levels are fun. There's a lot of infighting in level 24 which makes it easier than one might think, and you've got all the spells to use. And infinite spell range is a huge bit of opening up the game and just being able to play with the spells. As long as you survive the initial rush, then you're safe and on easy street.

Obviously since she can cast everywhere means she is everywhere (fits with being a god and all), so land bridge will raise the land between the target point and everywhere. The land on the entire planet will rise by a bit.

Just tested it, the camera is where your Shaman is positioned and you can cast it as far as you can see on screen, which means under the right circumstances, you can cast it across one side of the world, it has quite the length, enough to almost connect the Matak and Chumera together horizontally.

EDIT: And now videos are done, get 'em while they're fresh!

Also, this strange thing is in the video's recommendations, is this in the game? I wish it was...
