we only suffer 'tabs' to cater to environments that didn't have workspaces (like windows still doesn't) or to users didn't use them even if they were available there's coming to be less and less reason for tabbed anything on a desktop infernal machines posted:firefox does it too, don't know about chrome. it took years for support to show up in firefox, it still wasn't enabled by default, and it didn't work when i enabled it. i haven't used windows in six months, maybe it's changed since then. but windows 7 came out in 2009 and if it took them until late 2013 to turn this feature on, i can't imagine it's a trivial thing that any app can just turn on i don't use chrome much but i don't remember it working there, either

on windows i wanted two monitors because "i need the screen space" since i went to gnome, i went back to one monitor i know yospos doesn't want to hear that because dick size is measured by the number and size of displays you have on your desk but i've not thought for one moment that i should hook it up again

if you still have ubuntu gnome installed, you can try to limp along by adding the gnome3 ppa, then running update/upgrade. that will get you (mostly) up to gnome 3.10, which is current.

arch really hasn't broken itself in a long time (check the front page, all the announcements there are all pretty minor) the aur is the killer feature for me. dealing with custom repos and PPAs is really terrible. admittedly, the aur isn't perfect, but you have a greater chance of the package not completely disappearing because someone got bored or banned from launchpad

it compiles as the user and then installs through sudo, it even prompts and asks if you'd like to check the PKGBUILD script for maliciousness. basically, it's 100% like doing it manually.

also you can do 'pacaur -Syu' instead of 'pacman -Syu' and it will check the repos for updates, and then it will check the aur for updates and offer them all to you so you don't have to keep track of your aur packages like a scrub

suspicious dish, the last time we had a gnome thread i asked why i can't type a few characters, mash the menu key and arrow down to 'new window' (the menu key gives me the context menu for the input box) i can do it if i press down arrow, up arrow, menu button so its a focus problem but its real bad if you typed enough and there's only one search result, you can't arrow back and forth and so you have to grab the mouse and right-click ugg anyway you said it was a bug and it got fixed but it's not fixed?

ok gnome 3.12 was really good but everything is up a notch. i've never known a computer to actually become faster while i owned it. went back to windows 10 for a moment and looked at its multiple desktop implementation, lol what a shitshow in direct comparison
