yeah that's dumb as heck, although there is still a Rim out on the font panel (that could act like a cv trigger à la the old 909)

Sledge (blofeld ish). But at a grand you might as well wait and save.

Gaz Williams (the roadie-looking one off of SonicState) did a half hour vid of the Sledge on his own channel and I didn't think it sounded good at all: really thin and uninspiring, like a bad home-made VST poly.

Whereas that OB-6... gently caress me. That's a nice synth.

well why not posted:

The new Deadmau5 masterclass has a pretty long segment on his modular stuff. It's insane.

Bearing in mind this is the guy who couldn't work out how a René worked (on livestream) I'm not sure he'd be my first choice for modular masterclasses

a total self-plug here: i took some time off over xmas and hunkered down in the studio with the aim of writing & finishing an EP and it is done: https://genrefluidtapes.bandcamp.com/album/magenta-hyperhue

i'm not v good at describing what it sounds like but it is quite a lot like a warm bath in sound form. or maybe a tropical hot tub. gently caress knows. it's also free; pls enjoy if it's your kind of thing :chillpill:

You're after my heart, man. What are you using to generate sequences?

that one is pretty overkill - there's the modular itself (which is one of the background layers - you hear it clean right at the very end); the two more forward ones are both in reaktor 6 - lots of randomisation; lots of shift registering. i hate ever having to program a single note tbqh.

Bought myself the first new synth in quite a long time, & which came today; a Roland D-05. it's all the 80s new-agey goodness i anticipated and is a great contrast to all the other gear i have.

pros:
USB audio is very crisp
ultra kitch, glittery, shiny, crisp, spangly, naff as gently caress sounds
little joystick movements really bring life to the patches

cons:
package doesn't come with power plug (no big deal if you're running off USB)
*or* a loving USB cable (how cheap is that?!)
you'll never be able to program it without the help of this http://breadandbuttersounds.com/#D05Editor

A couple of months ago a drunken conversation in the pub with an artist friend culminated in the two of us agreeing to do a collab project of sorts: he would let me write two pieces of music responding to a couple of his drawings; and vice versa. Anyhoo unlike a lot of drunken projects this one has actually been partially realised.

Tech-wise its basically 90% modular and a self-built reaktor block ensemble. Gentle process music stuff; no beats; as usual for me. Enjoy if its your thing :puckout:

Okay weird post incoming.

Been using bigwig and really like it, but vaguely feel like I should ditch it because of the whole ordeal with the spectral suite last year. Also watched a Venus Theory stream where someone asked if he was still using it and he gave a resounding NOPE

I guess I'm just mega stressed at work and lack basic decision making skills outside of nursing poo poo.

one way of looking at it: the backlash was so strong, and Bitwig's "we're listening" u-turn so immediate, that they probably won't try the same poo poo again; but others might...

Yo, been messing around in VCV rack again, and have a bit of a question / request for help getting closer to the bagpipe sound please.

Close? Close enough? Ideas?

i don't know why i'm encouraging anything to sound more like fuckin' bagpipes but...

1. Use the Scala Quantiser from Nysthi in VCV - this will allow you to load in scala files, one of the various file types for handling microtonality in electronic music (along with .tun and some other esoteric poo poo).
2. Then pay a trip to Stichting Huygens-Fokker and download their (tiny) zip file containing 5000+ microtonal scales in .scl format: https://www.huygens-fokker.org/microtonaliteit/software.html
3. Find the bagpipe ones in this list: https://www.huygens-fokker.org/docs/scalesdir.txt

I mean, that’s modular for you. It’s more to do with mining for and experimenting with textures than it is about structure, form, harmony, melody, or other musical things. Modular synthesis is by nature mostly for sound design.

lol thanks but i'm not in need of an introduction to modular or what it's 'for'
