DRINK! ARSE! FECKIN CHRISTMAS!

I happened to pick up an SH-01a at the same time I accidentally slipped into modular and finally gave it a go today and I have to say it's really great. The hands on nature of it makes it quick to get going and it has a pretty good range. I was skeptical initially but I dig it now.

e:
I also came across this Mathew Johnson video on him using the SH-101 and it's so good.

I have also only just gotten into modular, so early in fact that I don't even have a proper sequencer yet. Just been using the Microbrute or Pamela. I have heard the new ALM ASQ1 is similar to the SH -01 sequencer. Anyone here have any hands on experience with it? I make dark ambient if anyone has any suggestions for a better sequencer.

If Chompi was Volca money it would be a lot more attractive. Oh well. Now watch as I spend twice that on a single eurorack module.

I like Blush Response. He is one of the few modular guys (though he does other synths as well) that actually seems to PLAY the modules he is talking about rather than just lecturing for 20 minutes with very few actual examples. YMMV but it also really helps that I like the sort of music he makes. I think I remember in one video he talked about working with Fear Factory and a few other bands so he has some pedigree as a musician.

I don't think someone is very happy about Behringers new module.

So what is the general synth nerd consensus of After Later Audio in comparison to Behringer? ALA do the occasional new thing but most of their catalogue is MI clones. Is the problem that Behringer doesn't give credit to the originals or is the issue more in how they are made? Sorry for the dumb questions but I've only been a synth head for a few years and still need to catch up on my drama.

Also is it silly to have more than one sequencer in a rack? I really enjoy the Nerdseq and it can do basically everything you could ever hope but sometimes I just want to jam the moment I turn the case on, you know. I've been thinking about the RYK sequencer or Bloom but the more intelligent part of my brain is holding me back.

Are all the poor reviews for Milky Way and the other Endorphins of that range due to the initial run, which was apparently quite noisy, or is there still something dodgy about them?

The Vector Wave with expander from Ryk Modular allows for 4 v/oct inputs but I have yet to bite the bullet because the UI looks like everything I hate. Sounds nice though.

I use a rocksmith 1/4 to usb cable to run from my modular straight into fruity loops and I feel like such a barbarian I love it.

Also don't forget the Christmas music thread in gbs. You not only can be bad at music you probably should be.

i gave a little spiel on video synthesis at our monthly meetup tonight and i think i might just become Video Person there.

Looks like Mystic Circuits, the guys who make IDUM, are getting into video synthesis but going for something slightly cheaper than LZX. Could be something worth looking into.

Oh and Sleepy Circuits his a new hipster thing which actually looks pretty darn cool.

Just jamming and filming said jams has forced me to think about my music in a completely different way. Never played live, more than likely never will but it has been an interesting experience.
