If you're playing cheap poo poo AND sound like poo poo I'm going to think you're an amateur. If you're playing really expensive gear and sound like poo poo I'm going to think you're a hack. But if you sound awesome I couldn't give a single gently caress what you're playing. I'm assuming someone who sounds good has a reason for playing what they're playing, whether it's a $150 Squier, a vintage Fender or a nine-string custom instrument.
