The ride out to New Buffalo along the Dunes Highway is quite nice. The weather is supposed to be reasonably warm and non-rainy for most of the day. Want to do that?

I would like to check out the Dunes too so that sounds cool to me.

Speaking of this there are some guys with a crowd source biek parking app called curbninja. They had a meetup group that ended up being a marketing meeting for their app that was supposed to drop last april but was vaporware til this winter. I haven't tried it out yet and the google reviews seem astroturfed because who was riding in feb this year but it might be worth a look if you live in the city.

Edit: clicked the link and curbninja is mentioned and reviewed as janky but hopefully they get it working well enough that crowdsourcing can populate enough spots so its worthwhile.

So. Riding bieks on Saturday. Man of Teflon and I are in. CaptainOrbital? Neobro? ChitownEddie? Pubic Lair? Silly Balls, you feel like coming down from MKE?

I figure we can meet somewhere kinda central. I'm in Streeterville, but there's no parking whatsoever near me. Other ideas?

If we leave around 9:30, that puts us in a good position to stop at the Dunes and have lunch around New Buffalo MI. How does Nani's Cafe and Beach Shop sound? http://www.yelp.com/biz/nanis-cafe-and-beach-shop-union-pier#query:lunch

I'll have to play it by ear. I had a bunch of wisdom teeth taken out yesterday morning, so I'll see how I feel. I'd have to bring my own lunch, though. :keke:

I'm going to try to go on a test-ride to the Evanston lakefront today with the family, if I can get my helmet on over my chipmunk cheeks.

We can meet at my place's parking lot in Logan Square again if that's good, I still gotta borrow 1/2" torque wrench power to get my WR (finally) going.

A little later in the day too might be nice... maybe noon again? Tonight is birthday party celebration time. Nani's looks like it will help my recovery though!

edit: wait that place looks like it hasn't opened for the season yet :(

Dick Tracy statue outside of the Naperville Town Hall. I took this on Friday.

Today's ride was fun too. Man of Teflon and I met up a little after noon, fixed his WR250, and then set off. We stopped at the Indiana Dunes National Seashore, and took a little walk to the beach.

We left there and wound up having lunch at a place called Niki's Gyros (or something like that). It was a little shack off the side of the road. MoT got pictures of that.

We switched bikes after that, and went off on a wild goose chase trying to find a little dirt trail he wanted to check out. The DL650 was really comfortable. It still felt like a substantial bike, but it was softer and lower than the Ulysses. MoT is about eight feet tall, so he liked the Uly's height.

We kept going on the Dunes Highway until we came to a little town called Michiana, MI. I saw a sign that said "Marina", so I turned. Turns out it was a neighborhood, but we made our way through it to find a little boardwalk.

If it was a clearer day, we would have been able to see Chicago.

We turned around because it was starting to get late. The way home was interrupted by this:

Some jerk left their locomotives parked across the street! It was probably around three or four minutes before the train left.

After that, we rode through scenic Gary, IN (which is a toilet, smells like burning rubber, and has a permanent haze to it), and made our way up surface streets to Lakeshore Dr. It was starting to get downright chilly, so I'm glad we turned around when we did.

This place was the best, roadside shacks are the best, eating on lawn furniture in front of the highway is the best.

Aye. Mine's not huge, but it comes in handy, at least according to my wife.

If you take Sheridan Road north, it gets pretty awesome. You can probably do it from your area if you take LSD north, and just keep going along the lake. Once you get north of Evanston it starts to get pretty awesome. It also starts to get really busy if it's a nice day.

I didn't go as far north as the Great Lakes Naval Station, so IDK what happens up there.

Let me know if you want to go for a ride up there or to WI some weekend. I might also head over to that Holiday Club if it's nice on Wednesday and I can be arsed to remove my mirrored visor.

Sucks balls man. I went through the trouble of getting about 1000 miles away from home for a fender bender. You win this round Tennessee. Details will end up in the crash thread once I have the foggiest idea how the insurance will play out... For the moment it seems like I will be in need of a vehicle with a trailer hitch in about 6 weeks. Might be panhandling this thread for one in a month if the friends and family networks disappoint.

They are really trying to gentrify the downtown area and have been heavily relying on the casino money and the community college.

Ride along 31 from Aurora to Elgin. Right along the river, has some nice sweepers and you get to go through some towns with decent mainstreet type areas.

North of Great Lakes Naval Station, its kinda weird with having to make multiple turns/jogs to stay on Sheridan. Gets a little shady going into the Waukegan area, then gets fun again when you hit the WI border. If you keep going north, you can head further east just south of Kenosha and rind through the shore in Carol beach which is cool. Further north is the downtown Kenosha area and marina, then not much, then shady when you hit Racine, then really nice just north of downtown Racine and into Caledonia. That's about as far north as I get on my normal ride on that route, but you could keep going up to Milwaukee and beyond.
