The Soviet Union collapsed (  ), a great Aaron Sorkin movie, and all we had to do was leave swathes of the Middle East at the mercy of Al-Qaeda and the Taliban and let some skyscrapers get leveled  . I guess you could count those two wars as consequences, but I don't think anyone really knows why we did those.
