    Algalon is a x1 rate progressive Wrath of the Lich King server operating in patch 3.3.5a. The server is just about 2 months old and is hosted by Dalaran WoW. At peak times there are over 1000 people on the server. On average there are about 300 on each faction at any given time and the server is growing everyday. What is a Progressive realm?: Dalaran WoW has a rather unique vision for Algalon. Not only will raids be gradually released as they were on retail, but each character will have to complete the raids in order before moving on to the next tier. Basically once Ulduar is released, you won't be able to enter it on 25 man mode until you've completed Naxxramas 25 and so on throughout the raid tiers. Kind of like gating in BC. Where your character is in progression also has an effect on heroics. The emblems dropped in heroics will change depending on the highest raid tier you've completed. The ToC heroic and ICC heroics will not be available until you've completed Ulduar and ToC respectively. I'm personally less versed in PvP but to my understanding they will be emulating seasons 5 through 8. Releasing a new season when a new raid tier comes out. Read more about what makes Algalon a progressive realm here. What about Donations?: Like a lot of private servers, Dalaran-WoW offers rewards for voting for their server and donating to the server. Unlike a lot of servers, none of the items offered are useful at the end game. The vast majority of what's offered are vanity items. Mounts, non combat pets, old legendaries, twink gear, things of that nature. You can also purchase things like heirloom gear, the ability to fly in Northrend at level 68, and the almighty level boost to 70. I know some might have issues with this but my philosophy is as long as the end game isn't pay to win then I'm ok with it. How's the scripting on this server? Is it buggy?: First of all, I'd just like to say that no private server is bug free and to start playing on one with that expectation is unrealistic. With that said, I leveled from 1-80 and I can count on one hand the number of quests I was unable to complete along the way. People on the server have completed the Loremaster achievement with no GM help whatsoever. What I'm trying to say is the leveling experience is extremely enjoyable. Well, that might be going a bit far. It is still leveling afterall. As for heroics and raids, I've been very impressed with the content I've run so far. The staff seems dedicated to properly scripting each raid encounter. Take a look at the bug reports for The Obsidium Sanctum and Naxxramas. You can see that the raids aren't perfect but there is an ongoing effort to make them as authentic as possible. Which raid is the server on?: The server is extremely young and is actually just opening 25 man T7 content and season 5 this weekend (4/4/2014). There is still plenty of time to level a character and get in on the ground floor. Where is the Goon Squad?: The Great Goons of Algalon have decided to fly horde side under the mighty Banner of <Brown Town>. Hotpockets, Reaganomics, Tannerschan, Frostshock, Buttlesticks, Fixins, Animefantasy, Shishkabob can invite. Just search brown town and ask someone if an inviter is on. There usually is. Where can I find Add-ons?: Someone in the Dalaran-WoW community was kind enough to compile a list with links to the biggest add-ons. At the very least I recommend quest helper for those starting out. I made an Undead warrior, Shartfrenzy. Can't whisper until level 5, apparently. As for addons, I have no idea. I downloaded a bunch when I played on another wotlk server for awhile. Quartz/DBM/Vuhdo.

I've been leveling inscription so I'll send you the glyphs I've been leveling off of that pertain to your class. Ran Naxxramas 10 man last night, thought I'd give a quick trip report. From the viewpoint of a ranged dps, the scripting was very good. Only a few buggy things I noticed. Zombies on Gluth aren't slowed after Decimate when they start running to feed him. Noth didn't come down from his balcony after one teleport phase (he did after the next one and he was killed normally) and Heigan dance zones seemed slightly off but that's probably because I'm bad at dancing. The boss that attributed to most of our deaths was Frogger. Complete with spammed raid chat of "wtf look where I died." Good times were had by all.

Which faction seems to do better in wintergrasp and world PVP in general? Reading the algalon forums, it seems that Alliance are the predominant force on the server.

During North America hours seems like horde dominates. Opposite is true during EU peak hours. Edit: dominates is probably too strong of a word. I'd say the factions are pretty well balanced.

This is tempting but I've literally never seen a private server with more than half of Ulduar scripted correctly, so I'm a bit skeptical that this operation will be any different. That said, this server does look a bit more promising and professional than any other self proclaimed private "raiding" servers that I've seen. Unfortunately I just don't have the time to level up at 1x rates for a true raiding experience that may or may not actually happen. I wish blizzard offered some sort of legacy service for access to old content. There are so many great endgame dungeons and raids that new players will simply never get to experience, Ulduar being one of the best! Anyway I hope the best for this server and those of you taking the plunge - hopefully in a few months I'll check back on this thread and a couple of you will be rocking that coveted Astral Walker title!

Woo Thanks for starting the guild Suran. Quick reminder for those leveling, you can buy heirloom gear with vote points. The shoulders and chest give you increased xp from quests and enemies. Should be able to get a piece a week if you're diligent.

Does this have all the perks of late game Wrath like Dungeon Finder? Basically is it 4.12 or w/e it was for last patch of Wrath? Man I loved Wrath but i'm not so sure about 1x levelling but i'll prob be in with you guys. e; -Emblems: Emblems of Triumph will be dropped only to those players who have already progressed through the content up to Trial of the Crusader. Example: If your character has progressed up to Ulduar (and has not yet managed to get The Descent into Madness 25 players achievement), he will not receive any type of emblem after defeating bosses on 5 man heroic instances. Although not sure if I dig that. Part of Wraths fun was running dungeons non stop to gear up and do raids, but I guess it's a good way to make Naxx and Ulduar not obsolete.

Their plans are to release RDF when ToC is released (not sure why, it was released with ICC on retail) As for the emblem question, heroics are currently dropping emblems of heroism. The area you quoted is admitted to be an error at some point in that thread. Now that you mention it I'm not sure what their plans are. I assumed one Ulduar was released those who completed Naxx25 could get valor from heroics, Conquest once ToC is released and Ulduar 25 is cleared etc. I think I'll make a post on their site to clarify this.

You're obviously entitled to your opinion and if this is violating any forum rules I'll close this thread in a heartbeat. I've seen private server threads on this forum for years, some with donations some without. There has been seemingly no issues with them. I'll point out that one is going strong on these forums and has been for over a year. You may say it's better because it's free but don't forget they're owned and operated by Feenix, a group that has made much more money for much longer than Dalaran-WoW. Giving them the ok and bastardizing dalaran-wow is like saying you don't want a pedophile babysitting your kid but you're ok if one owns and operates the daycare service you use.

I agree it's not the most desirable position for them to take, but the biggest issue I had with previous servers was that donations allowed you to buy gear that was better then anyone's who doesn't pay. At least it's limited to instant 70, mounts (mostly the WoW TCG ones), and items that actually exist in the game. If you feel like paying some money instead of farming/grinding then suit yourself. Also I could be wrong, but aren't they just using donations to pay for the server while most of those huge servers back in the day were actually profiting from it?

If you ever spend a ton of time to develop a product or work of art I hope someone from a foreign country rips it off completely and profits from it without your consent. The only reason people can profit from this kind of thing is because people like the OP advertise it and encourage people to consume it. Blizzard was fairly legally aggressive about shutting down The Rebirth, a US 1.12.1 project, so they clearly care about their intellectual property and WoTLK is not abandonware. The only reason Rebirth still exists is that is has been moved to another country and is under new ownership. Blizzard is actively losing revenue because people play on these servers and they've already proven it to multiple judges.
