Rathi04 posted:are there any smaller items that are needed Something like this: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CM-003-AK is not "needed", but it will look much nicer once you you have everything working, and it's so cheap it's daft not to. Also, airflow is a thing, and getting cables out of the way can only help. One other thing I found very useful was a head torch - doing fiddly things with expensive electronics under less than ideal lighting can be hard!

Factory Factory posted:The speakers linked above ^^^^ are prime examples of typical PC speakers. Loud, muddy, bass-heavy (on the set with the subwoofer), hissy. All speakers are fundamentally just noisemakers and can't live up to any ideal of sound reproduction, but PC speakers barely even try. Indeed. These things on the other hand are incredible for the size - no surround nonsense or anything, but they are almost as good as 'proper' hi-fi speakers, and need nothing more than a USB port & a power socket: http://audioengineusa.com/Store/Powered-Speaker-Systems/A2-plus-W-Powered-Desktop-Speakers

Looks like Samsung are on the case with the EVO drives: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8550/samsung-acknowledges-the-ssd-840-evo-read-performance-bug-fix-is-on-the-way Now they just need to release something like the XP941, but a bit cheaper, and I can make full use of my new Asrock Extreme6, and get rid of some ugly wires.

The Iron Rose posted:This is entirely off topic but I just absolutely adore Intel's standards for naming their CPUs. Lynnfield rolls off the tongue, Sandy and Ivy Bridge just sound cool, and Haswell is kinda meh but still interesting. Where do they come up with those names? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_codenames Well, blimey. There are some great names there. I always liked the sound of 'Nehalem', and now I know what it is!
