I'm personally hoping for Palutena and longshot-pick Bandana Dee.

Yeah, I know, no chance in hell on the latter. But he's been in all the recent Kirby games, has a pretty fleshed out moveset in Returns to Dream Land, and would explain DeDeDe losing his Waddle Dee projectile sponges.

So as of right now I see 43, but that's not a nice, pleasing number, so 45 maybe, although I can't see what more would be added. A third Fire Emblem and/or 6th Pokemon character? Snake somehow returns? A newcomer from something else?

I can hope against all hope from a Kirby's Return to Dream Land character (Waddle Dee or Magolor) and King K. Rool (considering the Kremlings were back), but even I know they'd be in the "highly unlikely" bin.

Also Simon Belmont, who'd make a very suitable Snake replacement for a Konami rep and reunite the Captain N trio.

Kellam should be the Fire Emblem rep. He isn't in any trailers, any cutscenes, any Smash website updates, or any Directs. You don't get the New Challenger Approaching when you unlock him. If you're inattentive enough, you might never even realize he's in your game.

Smash is already a Kirby game, so the Spear power would be super easy to adapt into a moveset for Bandana Dee. It'd fit the Charizard pattern too, pairing established Meta Knight with a related newcomer to complete the Kirby quartet.

Also he could have hat alt costumes like Pikachu. Sailor Dee finally gets his chance to shine!

I don't think Palutena and the Miis are entirely unique there. At the end of the Smash Run demo in Nintendo World I ended up unlocking some strange moves, such as Melee Charge Shot for Samus and Giant Blow for DK. Both were up b moves and sound nothing like the screw attack or the spinning arm thing. Didn't get to use them obviously, but they left me pretty curious.

They didn't show, but you could see some unlock names in Smash Run mode. I personally ended up encountering Giant Blow for DK's up B and Melee Charge Shot for Samus' up B. Those names at the very least give me hope of having some more unique options rather than a bunch of \attribute swaps.

One of them is a fireblast. In the Amiibo E3 video with Bill Trinen they show Bowser and he belts out a few fire blasts instead of a stream of firebreath.

Also, no, they are explicitly just changes. They even note on the website the only ones who aren't just spinoffs are Miis and Palutena (http://www.smashbros.com/us/howto/entry2.html). A Nintendo rep confirmed that the drops in Smash Run aren't configured properly. Melee Charge Shot is an alternate of the charge shot, it's not for the Screw Attack.

Not only does the website state it, he explicitly confirms this in the press round table too.

At best their might be cosmetic differences, but outside of the Miis and Palutena they're just variations. We know one is an exhale for Kirby instead of an inhale, which freezes, one is a really slow headbutt for DK but gives him ton of armor, and Pit's easily controllable slow arrows.

They aren't properly configured? Oh, that's a bit disappointing. Guess I got my hopes up too high after seeing them drop.

Why is this worse than literally any other inane bullshit that could be discussed regarding Smash Brothers? It is frankly among the better discussions a person could possibly have about the game.

Like, competitive versus casuals, Waluigi fan club, Project M, gameplay mechanics 90 percent of the people who play the game couldn't understand, the list of forgettable characters everyone wants included in the roster, Pac Man's appearance relative to other Pac Man games, that's all fine and good, but the moment anyone brings up "Hey, they did a lovely thing that is insulting to women and frankly, everyone," that's when it becomes insufferable?

I think at this point everybody's seeing all of those topics as insufferable, though. Except Pac-Man chat, replace that with "Ridley size discussions" and you're good.

He probably wanted to reference everything from Uprising. Since Pit gets the new weapons, Palutena gets the various power blocks in addition to her own laser powers. If only because just shooting lasers gets a little boring for an entire moveset.

I'm hoping Mega Man gets something similar, even if its just using standard variations like Metal Blades becoming Shadow Blades or something like that. Just at least changing the model to reference his millions of weapons.

I'd hope for Rush Jet instead of Coil but considering we didn't get the other Fludd nozzles it's looking unlikely.

At least Game and Watch is the only Game and Watch character, but with so many Rhythm Heaven minigames to pick from why such a bland character?

A. It was a mindless, feral CLONE of Ridley (not even the Real Deal) and
B. Samus is supposed to be a stone-cold hunter who (by that point in the "timeline" of Other M) has saved numerous galaxies already.

Overall the whole game just feels like Sakamoto wanted to make a reboot of Metroid with Anime Waifu Samus, but chose inexplicably to make it a sequel, almost at the end of the timeline (also he pretended Prime games never happened)

I always thought the game was supposed to be a prequel. At least, the marketing focusing on young militarylike Samus, the little birdie, and Adam from Fusion being around indicated that. Hell, that could've actually made all this Ridley nonsense at the very least a bit excusable, especially if it marked her change into a true stone-cold badass.
