Sometimes the center can get tossed if one of his wingers moves early, too. If the second guy in to take the faceoff gets thrown out too (on the same faceoff) then it's a penalty. It happens maybe once/twice a season.

Jon Leibowitz posted:I'll bite with this one, why are some teams so consistently mediocre? I assume there has been a lot of management/player turnover over the years, yet they always seem to be hanging out near the bottom of the standings. Generally bad management and/or owners. A bad owner can be one that interferes in operations (like forces trades/bad contracts, or won't approve trades, or makes lineup decisions) when he has no business doing so or one that refuses to spend money. Or for someone like Eugene Melnyk (owner of the Senators), both! Bad management is just...bad management. GMs drafting poorly, handling signings poorly, mismanaging the cap, messing up trades. Alienating your star goalie(s) and making him (them) hate it on your team so much that they want nothing more than to get the hell off your team to not have to deal with your dumb rear end anymore. It's kinda the same in all pro sports. There are just some teams with lovely owners that refuse to do what's needed to make a winning team. Usually it's because they can get away with it and still make money so why bother?
