I've been updating it irregularly, but I haven't really touched it for about two months or so. It does deserve to be archived because pubbies literally believe it is our "griefing" handbook, and some check it regularly.

Edit: If anyone can, while their browsing the STO forums, try to bump my thread. I want pubbies to have to deal with an obvious troll thread amidst their incessant whining.

In OSX I had to move mine down to medium on a current-gen MBPr for ESD to not crash. Most other places in the game are OK. It's something specific to the mac build. If I reboot into Windows everything is fine at reasonably high settings.

Yeah there's two issues. The first is that they reset everyone to max settings when the new season got patched in. The second is that their graphics updates seem to have made the client more resource intensive. I have to drop it down to medium-low when watching Netflix while playing to avoid performance issues now, which I never had to do before.

Neither is really that big of a deal though.

I want to say that the Branch 40 build did something with lighting and shadows, but I can't seem to recall if STO was on Branch 40 or 35 prior to Season 9. The interior part of the Assimilation mission seems to have some more intense shadows and something like faux god rays that caused my game to chug a bit, also had some really bad frame rate using the tailor too.

Or I could just be crazy.

Odd. When I logged in the recommended settings it had me set to were the lowest possible and the whole game looked like blocky poo poo. Its not the best looking game to begin with, but it had the blocky feel of old PS1 games going on.

I upped the settings some, but for some reason it still doesn't seem to look as smooth to me. I'll prolly have to mess around with them more, but I am also getting poorer performance, so who knows.

Yeah, there's a "hilarious" catch-22 these days where most fleets do DKP-style sperging over provisions and have the only measure of worth as contribution points... but the starbases are finished and the provisions are done so there's no way for someone new to really get points.

I'm firmly convinced Cryptic will add some sort of additional fleet mark sink gimmick so people can farm up gear (if maybe not as lucratively as the starbase projects) if only so that upcoming additions won't have their jobs instafilled in large fleets with lots of members with backed up marks.

Short summary: Federations are bland losers, Klingons have an entire duty officer mission type devoted to space piracy.

More seriously, the only real difference is the queues (feds have an easier time with fleet queues due to sheet numbers queuing) and accessory sort of stuff. Klankroms have better uniform options, better (and very lucrative) duty officer jobs, better generic carrier fighters (though you'd generally want to use a frigate), and better fleet weapons (the elite disruptors are infinitely better than the fed phasers... but you'd want antiproton anyway). Klanks have to buy a c-store ship to get the Plasmonic Leech console, though it's an account unlock, while feds have to buy it off the exchange for a few million credits; both are big investments as new players, but the latter's more manageable.

I'd say go klingon myself since klankroms basically get all the benefits and almost none of the downsides, but it really comes down to whether you want Starfleet Dental or Nerds of Prey hovering under your name.

Has anyone else had a problem with the game taking forever to load? It takes like 10-15 minutes to load past the Romulan logo screen on start up. This started around halfway through the release of the last season.

Also, what the gently caress is with the graphical issues that have come up lately? The longer I play/the more I go through loading screens, the higher the chance it is that part of my character will start turning black or flickering black.

Been like this since before this season and I can't find a fix to it no matter what I try. I thought it was an overheating issue at first, but checking my card reveals that it's running fine. I'm pretty much at my wits end when it comes to trying to fix it.

There are apparently tons of people on the forums with the same issue too, but the dev fixes are bizarre and don't work. One of them was basically to defrag your hard drive (I'm running on a brand new computer with a brand new OS install and pretty much nothing else.) for instance. Or to try wiping the whole computer and try installing from scratch. :stare:

If you're subscribed, you get one whenever you go up a rank (so at 10, 20, etc.) If you're not subscribed, you get jack. :v: Yeah you probably want to take care while you level.

Luckily Cryptic's mentioned that they think the skill system is horrible and bullshit, but any sweeping change to it won't be before the end of the year.

(Also, roll a romulan tactical officer. It's pretty much the "win the game" combination right now and I can't imagine it changing in the foreseeable future simply due to how the class is designed conceptually.)

Windows 7. Unless they introduced something new in one of the recent updates i'd be surprised if it's the OS alone causing it. Has to be something on their end since it was working fine on this computer for a little bit. My other computer can also run it just fine. It's not nearly as portable as this one however.

Then again they could have introduced something that's hosed up how my graphics card handles it. Wouldn't be surprised since it's Cryptic. Just not sure how to handle the issue.

Edit: I also appear to have a large number of items in my inventory that are in stacks, have no icon, no description, and cannot be discarded, taking up slots. Which means a chunk of inventory space is being locked off by this bug. The gently caress did they do during this patch? :wtc:

Edit: Also, I mentioned it to a goon, but I think Tuvok's facial model glitched out during the graphical issues. Every time it zoomed in on his face in the newest mission it looked like he was about to lunge at someone and bite out their jugular. :wtc:
