don't forget the dumbasses in teh comments sayign "MY RH INSTALL X WINDOW SERVER DOES NOT START HELP PLEEES" even if the guy is posting about his pet cat or w/e

tbf i think they did genuinely try to follow the spirit of it for the first few years

then they progressively realised that they were, you know, an advertising company, and hence the fount of all the bile and garbage in this world.

Facebook Inc's whole thing is gobbling up anybody who looks like they're about to crack facebook.com's network effect. facebook.com is probably going to become a legacy product sooner rather than later because inevitably the next generation grows up and doesn't want to be on the same social network that their parents are on so they go use WhatsApp or whatever instead.

Facebook Inc remains relevant and every 10 years somebody whose facebook clone is in the right place at the right time becomes pornographically rich, everyone's a winner.

Reminder that probably up until quite recently it was basically a requirement to use Facebook's product if you wanted to have sex with college girls and somehow FB didn't manage to parlay that into printing an avalanche of money that would make Apple blush

I mean how do you gently caress that up. I'm not saying I approve of this state of affairs but it is what it is, they cornered the market on the most commercially valuable resource on the planet and completely bungled it.

At some point like one or two people served malware from there so Google paniced and shitcanned the whole thing and even their own open sores poo poo says "we've migrated to GitHub" on their code.google.com pages

for some reason github.io doesn't seem to have this problem hrrrrmm (probably because something being hosted at "google.com" carries a bit more authority than github.io but still)

if somehow page, brin, and schmidt got fired and replaced by a person or group of ppl with a bit more clue then google could also turn its decline

IE6 Did Nothing Wrong

(the ie6 box model made more intuitive sense)

also Spolsky pretty much nailed why IE6 stagnated for so long: MS figured out that everybody was switching to web apps in droves, so since they controlled the program everybody used to access web apps they went "aaah poo poo abort abort cease all development immediately"

well, ok, either that or the more likely explanation that IE7 development was happening exclusively for Longhorn/Vista and that was stuck in development hell and ended up being completely scrapped and restarted

of the HTML/CSS/JS trifecta i'd say CSS is probably the worst

"oh you want to center an object vertically? well, you see, *FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAART*"

so of course Gtk3 makes heavy use of CSS (not HTML, just CSS) for UI customization rofl

just delete the loving thing and make the arrow keys a reasonable size but of course god forbid we do something without apple doing it first
