I don't think it matters as much as you'd expect what governmental model is adopted, but more the cultural norms that determine how it actually functions. The democratic model in Denmark isn't that different than the US in ways, but it functions better mostly because of their norms. If the US were more prosperous country with different norms, the laws and governance may be administered similarly, but the results would be quite different.

It's like anything else it works great on paper and then people just ruin everything.

afik the exchange server integration is only available with the Ex plans, not the Px small business plans. you can't mix the plans within a domain and the per license cost of the Px plans is lower so it tends to be what businesses with les than 25 licenses are using.

apple does/did it with the exclusivity of itunes to the idevices (and vice versa) and the in-app payment rules in the app store. google does it with everything and google search. amazon is trying real hard to get users to try their video streaming service by tying it to free 2 day shipping. microsoft is trying to break into single sign-on (again) by requiring you to sign up for a Microsoft Account in Win 8.

it has gotten so bad that the only way to have any chance at breaking into an occupied tech market sector now is to be one of the other monopolistic companies (like apple and ebooks) and the end-game of nearly all startups is to to hope like hell the big tech companies decide to acquire you instead of rolling out their own service via the tying of it to their major strength (what are the odds that spotify continues to exist after apple/google roll out integrated streaming services?).

which sounds reasonable for a second but then you realize that the system timer affects thread scheduling across the entire os, so if your argument is "other things are already doing it" then there's no loving reason for you to ALSO do it

right i mean those timers exist for a reason and there are even sensible reasons why chrome might want to gently caress with them sometimes (e.g. html5 video) but the fact that they always dropped the timers to 1ms is proof positive that chrome devs don't understand operating systems (or are told not to care)

which gets extra-funny when you remember chrome os is a thing which exists
