Shen needles can hit really hard if fully charged and you get a crit on someone under the guiding needle debuff. Shen members can also boost the damage of their skills by playing the "cure people around the world" minigame (Thats what the "Damage increase with medical value desc. line" mean). What i found most interesting for this set is that its mixed internal and external and that needle damage scale off brawn and breath, making it a useful ranged and healing set without having to swap stats. Its perfectly fitted for Shen internal with its roughly equal value for all stats.

But with only 2 attacks (with the same animation), a ranged feint and a ranged (10m) debuff its a very, very boring set to look at.

I feel like this faction is a breeding ground for demented serial killers. Are the beast villa or Xu family quest line and daily tasks less horrifying? Do they ask you to throw kittens in the river and collect debt money on widows forced to sell their children into servitude ?

I can confirm what others said - the graduation level, be it either 2nd inner or 3rd inner, is always 30. Once completed you receive all school inners below the one you graduated at the minimum needed to open the acupoint of your school, i.e. 1st inner 25 and/or 2nd inner 20. You also receive a permanent %reduction on cultivation for other school inner of lower grade than the one you graduated. It really help with the catching up for new players.

Yes, that is the usual result as most raiders scream #YOLO and charge right in to die gloriously 1 vs 3. They then give up even if the caravan is not halfway to its destination.

But sometime you get to raid with a group of Shen who team first, listen when you tell them to focus fire on the caravan and smartly spread around. Combined with a little bit of poison and Royal Guard 1st inner that poor glowing gold cart could not even go 50m before exploding in chests. Needless to say much faggotry and calling of names where involved in the afterward.

Must be a shame having to explain to the guildmaster they lost his precious escort to a bunch of jogging medics armed with sewing needles and a girl with 15m of rope.

You should have received a single bag (like the VIP bag) with the scripts during one of the "storyline" quest chain you get when you reach a new identity. If i remember correctly its when you reach identity rank four but i'm not 100% sure.

Yay ! I can contibute on this subject !

I recently decided to « probe » the reward mechanism of the possession encounter. Armed with a stable of 1st inner alt I observed the following:
- Your first Possession encounter for the day is pretty easy to trigger either with silver coin martial practice or some simple (ore, wood) gathering. Your second possession encounter warrant a ludicrous (3+hour) amount of life skill to trigger and won’t happen as long as you have some form of possession buff affecting you.

- Possession opponents scale with the highest inner you have cultivated (your power title). The demon difficulty scales with the “owner” of the possession encounter (the player who trigger it) while your clone scale with your own inner. You clone and the Demon HP scale much, much faster than yours.

- The possessions encounter clones do not appear (so far) to use faction inners or faction skills sets. I’m at lv 35 Shen family inner with a lot of points in needles. I unlocked but never leveled Ice chi and the vagrant kick set. My clone use Demon Hand with the self-recollection inner, making her a total (and suicidal) pushover.

- Many have probably already guessed it but the “pick one reward among four” is illusion of choice. Whatever card you pick you will get the treasure 80% of the time, after 10 encounters where I could see every reward for all 3 players (not a very big dataset, I know), it’s clear that what you get from the card is a simple RNG roll. I fear paying to reveal will pretty much be mandatory if you plan to farm possessions for the 4th acupoint items, at least if you want to do so in any efficient manner.

Best way I can see to farm this is to have 3 levels 10-15 1st inner vagrant alt as friend. Have them trigger your 3 daily possession encounter and simply brute force them with your main. Once your clone is dead you can wipe the floor with the demon and the other clone. Inviting similar level friends from schools with a lot of control in the AI preferred sets (Beg, WV, Shao) is a recipe for disaster, as clones sometime "cheat" like the Hero encounters, opening the fight with a rage move or being able to land combo that need the target to be airborne no real player (at around 80ms ping) could land 100% of the time.

Next on my list of thing to do is checking if the “revealed” rewards are similar or close to the “shown” reward they tease you with if you don’t pay. I would not be surprised for snail to be “creative” by showing better loot you can’t get anyway in order to entice you to pay for the privilege to pick the best out of 4 poo poo sandwiches.

The only one I've looked at so far is Eagle Shooting Hero, which includes the Nine Yin manual, the people behind the five Hua titles, and Peach Blossom.

My personal suspicion has always been that Snail USA is nothing but a shell company that exist only for tax purpose and US business law. All important decision must come from China as do most of the artistic and technical talent, explaining the glaring errors in website design (background image different from text stated price in easy to miss BIG BOLD 42pt GOLD LETTERS) and why the only legible official statements on the forum come from the community manager. Everything in this game reek with Chinese culture of hard control, from the spending and activity limit to the lack of consideration for time zone.

As for Snail whaling expedition it’s very simple : That’s where the money is. Statistics show that half of game revenue operating on the f2p model comes from 0.15 percent of its players. Your whale (the 0.15 percent ultra-rich) spending only 5% more for a month (Get that lovely rabbit! Get that Camel ! Only available now!) make you as much money than if all your other player where to increase their spending by the same amount (something that will never happen) Why bother trying to motivate hundreds to spend a few more $, many having never spend before or not having the disposable income to do so when you can target a handful that have already proven their willingness and capacity to spend in the past?

They chase the whales because the whales have been hooked and trained like SeaWorld animals over the past year to consider higher and higher amount paid for vanity and items as “reasonable” and are probably now operating under the fallacy of sunk costs(If I stop paying now all my previous spending where useless !)

I wonder if they made the necessary adjustment for the second kidnap time revenue calculation and offline players distribution, because if not there is a strong risk that by second kidnap time most offline will either be a) under the “recently kidnapped debuff” or b) worth only 2L because they haven’t been offline for long enough. We also don’t know if they doubled the amount of Tael available or simply split it in two. Worse would be to have left the daily amount untouched and simply transfer it form event to event, potentially ending the later event in 45 minutes or maybe even less since the first few minutes of the human traficker event probably consume a big chunk of the available liang. Hopefully they did not adjust the pool from CN servers and since ours are so underpopulated compared to them there should be enough for everyone.

I’m probably speaking up because the original tempest of strife kidnap time, if a little bit late, did not really affect me and to be honest I much preferred having 2-3 12L kidnaps instead of five 5L ones and constant group interruptions for kidnap pause. I can see much gnashing of teeth if they did not consider everything carefully, potentially taking the availability of a big % of kidnap taels off the hands of the evening players, allowing those who can join the earlier event all the juicy 12-15L kidnap and leaving the evening players the 2-5L refreshed ones. This situation would really be the worst of both worlds for those without permanent stalls, as it might be difficult to stall when those who have the taels are online to buy.

Careful developers would monitor the number of player online at the hours close to the kidnap event compared to peak player from the previous day and regulate the amount of tael available for both event in a ratio based on those factors, the amount of tael bough and the amount removed via taxes with the goal of having the economy moving at a steady pace. Can we really expect that from chinagame ?

Only the bots and the sperg lords who can participate in both events will really benefit from the changes.
I’m not sure this is the end of the kidnap saga.

The new way to give out jade fragments must be generating more profit than the dragon and tiger boxes we had a few month back. On SV i saw jade frag going for as much as 20L since many people want the good (mozi, yuanyuan, 9 palace) "old" 99golds sets when on other server they averaged around 5-7L when we had the boxes for 5g.

I would not go so fast as to discredit the whole thing as a rambling madman placard. I managed to read a lot of anti-corruption unit declassified reports (while not working within the law i love reading about it, its a hobby of mine) and i have seen more complex scheme for saving or making probably less money than snail would get from such a idea.

Snail had show before than it can move very, very fast and with complete competence when its money making way are threatened. Wile customer service and game support are piss poor i'm pretty sure the revenue technician are top notch and monitoring things daily. You can not expect a company from a country with a culture of kickback and "acceptable" corruption to turn clean the moment it set a foot in California.

Mersin is without a doubt a special character but if you remember ten year ago someone was screaming at the top of his lung than Bernard Madoff was running a Ponzi scheme and nobody believed him, no matter how much proof he brought forth. Guess everyone was surprised come march 2009.

And on a pure, pragmatic business sense, the scheme work. Why bother setting in place a complex, layered security system that i have to maintain , update and redesign with each major patch when i can simply offer the gold seller to get paid twice (once for selling the player tael, once for selling me the player details) and then have the player repay me again to get un-banned. A company that care in repeat business, customer satisfaction and privacy would never consider such idea but we are talking about Snail and a semi-legal gold sellers here. None of them having ever made promises about privacy and security of our data. Chinagame does not even have a Eula like many mmo when you log in.

This practice of allowing you to buy back after you void the (existing?) Eula is unique to Snail i believe. I would love to know if any other MMO allow such practice.

But for all the missed opportunity, cash grabbing and scummy management our puppy with diarrhea of chinagame still has a heap of content. Think of the 40+ inners, factions, dozens of skill sets (not all usefull, i agree), the crafting, the cultural skills, the war and the assassin invites, the tournaments, Mt Hua, spy mission, meridians, etc...

So much wasted potential..

Yes. I'm 15 level in as a big burly Shaolin and its as if the two design team copied each other notes all the way trough. Both games have roughly the same stats and they do the same things. The graphics are nice if more cartoony and the characters slider allow for completely mutant toon with tiny legs and head but barrel wide chest, ape long popeye arms and hands the size of fat hams.

But sadly all i did in 15 levels where fetch quests and "go kill these 5 dudes 10 ft behind me and comeback" type of quests. The only exception being very easy instanced solo boss fight

The first time you are allowed off the tutorial rails you are presented with a green field covered in mobs and asked to farm 10 of them. The storyline is fun and the localization is much more legible than AOW but aside from the specific school(class?) part all characters seem to have the same story.

Hopefully things will improve when i unlock PVP.

Re swords game: are NA and EU combined or not? Are there scheduled events? I got a code, in german of course, so will give the short CBT a whirl.

Only one server so far (Clossed Beta)and i have yet to see any events as in AoW. I would guess that if your wiling to poopsock you can get to the endgame in a 40h week. Third world Reggin can probably give a better estimate since he is further along the theme park rail than me.

I did not see any voice option during character creation, so my big burly Shaolin that you would expect to have a voice somewhat like Cao Cao or Guan Yu from 3kindom instead sound like a teen idol during cut scene. Thankfully your a mostly silent protagonist.

Chinagame just decided to give me the Peach blossom RE, so my exploration of railman online will have to be delayed a little. I really wished to see the "sex trafficking with children" level.

For those wondering, perfect world "beta" are more like staggered launch so the server don't crap itself come the big day. Once the cash shop is in the game is live and there wont be wipes.

From what i gathered there will be a wipe next week when they go from closed to open beta. That may explain the very quick leveling pace we are enjoying. i fear the "real" pace will be much closer to the usual korean mmo grind.

The game is so far (lv 30) so un-challenging that you can play it like a html website. click quest link, click accept or reward, click action, click name of npc to kill (you will walk to it and attack, auto attack will do the job, just take longer) rinse, repeat until level up.

Eventually they give you a kid to look after but that little strumpet can run as fast as a horse.

Made a female toon to try five venom and "OH MY GOD THE EYES!". Also : jiggling breast physics, and the slider was not even halfway to max.

whats the most "asshat in a top hat" school so far ? i know sun and moon are good candidate but there must be other with potentials. Shaolin are mostly self buff and health regen.

Indeed, but anything can be dressed up to look nice in a trailer. If once again we get a crap translation, bullshit cashshop grabbing and a dev that don't consider western economic/culture there wont be much progress from what we have now.

From the way things are shaping up the best next sandbox mmo available to the west might be Archage. Trion is refusing to follow the way korea/russia/japan went and turning it into a themepark, instead focusing on the building and commerce aspect.

i don't seem to understand the set. According to the website (http://www.ageofwushu.com/static/full_moon_scimitar/) all i see is something very similar to yangyang blade. There is no mention of skill disable anywhere.

Weirdly no skills seem to use rage (probably a website typo) and while the text for the second charge mention a 20M range the stats state it at 3.

It looks like you get 2 charge (one 4 hits, one 2) a spam, 2 Aoe (probably both cones in front of you, one of them stun for 2S, the other pushback) the feint pushback on parry break and the rage is single target. The main gimmick of the set being attaching at max 5 levels of DOT for 8S.

If the set really is about skill disable and have a 20m charge then this could be a wonderfull PVP set if it animate fast enough. If not its just a (near) reskin of Yanyang with flashier animations.

The Steam user review simply destroyed it, nobody putting up a single positive point about the game. Not taking part in the sale and setting its bundle price too high ensured it vanished quickly from the front page of the free to play tag.

SnailUSA being a shell company could explain why they always have problem with the major payment services. As for the game dying i would not bet on it since the whales alone can probably keep it alive forever based on the amount of money they spend. We recently had people complaining on the forum about the maximum of 10D you can buy each day, blaming Snail for not letting them burn money faster.

This game is just selling code already paid for by the Chinese version and passed trough a loosely overseen machine translation, so there is no development cost, only lovely maintenance handled at China work rate.

Trion getting the rights for that new Wushu game currently in OB in China could be the MMO we are all hoping for, as Swordsman has show clearly better management but so much less depth.

Exactly. I tried Swordsman online and i really hoped to like it but after leveling every school to 20 and half of them to 40 i realized the "pick a single class, forever" feature was the deal killer for me. I had more fun watching the 2013 TV drama of the book than playing it.

The game has many qualities and is objectively more polished than AoW, but i got into AoW on the feature that it was a skill based character progression instead of class based. That turned out to be a half-truth, but it was good enough to stay for a while.

In the grand scheme of things, our preference for either game and its future are meaningless, as for every one of us there is 10k Chinese players throwing money at either game. The games will go on the way the Chinese market decide and we can only hope the resulting competition will someday yield a better quality of crumbs for us to enjoy.

Thankfully Archeage is fun so far and catgirls aside, Trion seem to understand why the west find the game interesting.

I know Snail Usa servers are Hamster powered but in this era of 2TB storage for 80$ are they so stripped for cash they need to purge old char to make room for more gold seller and bots accounts ?

I remember managing to steal my first script. It was a 3rd page of some WV poison palm skillset, a worthless thing but by the buddha i was so happy i nearly cried.

Forming a squad to hunt down the sewing needle holder near zone exit point during SS, puking on the corpse right after throwing the needle away.

The endless screamig in chat in that little special room in Peakcok villa where you where not supposed to use knockdown/up moves on the boss.

Mt Hua empty hand kung-fu duel.

Yanmen pass boss who could resset 8 or 10 times in a single run.

The rage mail you would get after ruining another guild golden escort run.

Rooftops chase after bounties in Shuzou with EmpressWu,

Chengdu "No horse days".

Sigh.

In the end it was Peach Blossom Island that did it for me. Days after days after days of doing the same tasks (even if riding a mind controlled shark was kinda fun) and Snail horrible way to manage the servers finally eroded my will to play.

Yet sometime i still log on Wulin during the dead morning hours, just to roam around the land and listen to the music.

Of course its still pay2Win, ancient cash set still own you and you will never get the old band together to bark at the viets but if you gently caress up your MBO install or cant stand Glorious PRC runes it might give you a fix.

MOBAS are the new "WOW killer" every major publisher must try its hand at it (and fail) to get it out of its system or to please the marketing suits.

Most of them run for 2 years, realise "Hey, People who have invested 10k hours in getting good at LOL or DOTA will keep on playing LOL or DOTA" and then shut down.

I know it wont be like "Getting the band back together" but If you have this Wushu itch you cant scratch, Age of Wulin is doing rather well. With a single server the population is very stable with roughly 350 VIP in team purchase each week.

The economy is nice, VIP kidnaps still give you a max of 15L 24/7 wherever you sell and they recently tweaked Lingxiao City so that it only need 40 players to start instead of 80. Next expansion in line is "The New World" with the 20+ new sets coming Q1 2016.

Only thing that sucks is the timezone difference. Aside from that you can reap all the pubbies tears you want.

Age of Wulin still going healthy. New world expansion was delayed to February (Jan was the original target) but the VIP team sales numbers still above 300 week after week.
