Clarkson obscured what he said to be funny and edgy. He's annoyed people think he said the N-word based on the PC GONE MAD act that made him rich (and the fact he totally does). The slope gaffe was annoying because he denied knowing it was a racist term, but the wordplay only worked if he knew it was a term for an Asian man. Sadly he'll keep his million pound BBC job despite a string of acts of casual racism and use it as a platform to attack the BBC and political correctness. But in good news Labours come out with rent controls which are a)something I like because it'd benefit me and b) will be fairly popular. A couple more decent bits of policy and maybe I might hold my nose and vote for them. Maybe.

WastedJoker posted:Farage got egged today. It was wonderful to see. Miliband had the right response to this, jacket off and carry on. But hey running way isn't as bad as Prescott lamping a protestor. Makes you wonder if Ukip are so popular why can't Farage go to half the country without being protested against? Probably all the immigrants.

Kegluneq posted:He's just released a (video) statement on Twitter in which he appears pretty contrite about the whole thing. 1) I don't find 'I have a side of paper just out of shot that proves I didn't say it' quite as contrite as you must. Pretty much 'SORRY I DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY'. 2) Clarkson writes for a right wing tabloid, and uses his page to bash the BBC pretty regularly. 3) Not being racist to someones face when visiting a foreign country, truly a high water mark.

I hate Chuka Umunna. He'd be a Tory if he hadn't grown up mixed race in the 80's. He's such a career Mp as well, but he lacks the charisma (but not the pro-bussiness attitude) for all of those shallow Obama comparisons the media likes to make.

I'm trying to work out how Labour having more seats and control of more councils then the Tories, Lib Dems and Ukip combined is some sort of massive failure, particularly as no one was expecting a 1997 style landslide next year? Unless the media are just trying to get a sensationalist story? But when have they ever done that. - Just because people rightly doubted that hordes of Muslims were rioting in the street, doesn't mean their defending the clear corruption in Tower Hamlets. The Lib Dems are already doing the in-fighting, might as well go the full hog and get something out of it. Get a new leader, pull out of government and bunker down on the 20 savable seats for 10 or 20 years.Kegluneq posted:I can't think of anyone (Lynne Featherstone?) but it would eliminate the possibility of one of the embarrassments in the Cabinet getting the job. He could also simply feel that a (liberal) female leader is long overdue, and electing one as leader would at least make a public impact. Labour have been making the same sounds with their next leader, it's a thorn in both parties sides that the tories of all people have the first women prime minister, they feel they need to catch up.
