Haha yeah, it was mostly just me doodling around with little regard to actually making sense. The light oval is some kind of halo or something I guess. I'm not sure myself, frankly.

Whelp, as promised here's some previews of my skool poo poo. I have to re-imagine/illustrate a "children's book cover". Louis Sinclair's Babbitt is a "children's" book right? It's a bit(totally) complicated. Now I get why the teacher said kiddies book illustration. this poo poo is totally complicated yo. The original notion was to redesign Alice in Wonderland. Which is pretty effing basic in comparison. Babbitt is a difficult story to describe to someone who hasn't read it. essentially it's the 1920's Seinfled. A story about nothing, the American dream, the Bourgeoisie ideal status symbols. What Wikipedia Says about BABBITT no 1 here is the early iterations of the cover, Babbitt is obsessed w/ time and the notions of it, no 2 is the best iteration so far. wherein he needs to still have the time vortex (spiral) engulfing him. I really like the idea of the silhouette of Babbitt contrasted with the spine and overall comp, but more importantly the vortex needs to include all the status symbols that Babbitt holds dear. Which upon further reading of the story seems to expand to a ridiculous level and I'm not sure if I can actually illustrate his bourgeoisie lifestyle entirely. So far I have a vortex of time, with a few limited objects. It really needs to have a lot more of the things that Babbitt really sees as being necessary to the quality of his life. I guess it's really the "AMERICAN DREAM" so-to-speak, but I'm not 100% on how to Illustrate that idea within these confines, without being overly complicated. tldr: dog nougat fucked around with this message at 09:56 on May 6, 2014 |

Sorry I didn't post yesterday! Skull One: Skull Two: I realised as I was finishing the second picture that the lower half of the face is too broad and too flat, so I'll work on that tomorrow. e: I also did this yesterday when I was meant to be practicing. Someone mentioned this thread helping out a lot with character design. Anyone got links to any good resources/posts? It's something I feel like I struggle with.

Very early stages on planning out my submission for this week's compixellated challenge, the theme was "Deamon girls", so I clicked on a few wiki pages and got Lempo, who was the god of both evil and love in pagan Finnish religion. Also Has moose horns and commands minions called "Piru".

That lunch sketch is cool, but I don't think you're accomplishing what you want to with the skull. You should do some line drawings without any coloring or rendering since it'll force you to outline every shape you see in the skull instead of kind of smearing over certain details like you are kinda doing with that drawing. Also I hope you honkies are not completely dismissing criticism just because it's coming from people who are also trying to be funny. sigma 6 posted:Zing! lol for real

I think I'm trying to do too much at once - learn anatomy and digital painting simultaneously (as in, on the same pictures) and doing a half-arsed job on both as a result. So for the rest of the month, I'll do my skull/head studies in pencil. I did some rendering digitally here to show shadows and stuff because I think that's still useful and it only takes like five minutes after the bulk of the drawing is done, but I'll make sure to get every detail down in line first. And don't worry, I take every piece of criticism into account, no matter who it comes from or what the tone is. The FYAD thread is actually one of my biggest motivations to improve right now - both because there's some genuinely useful pearls of advice under the gibberish and because when I draw a daily picture that doesn't end up posted there, I get really excited.

I was inspired by this thread and drew a naked person using a few stock photo references. I very seldom do figure drawing, and really should do it more often since it can only help me improve. I really ought to look into a figure drawing class at some point, since I've never taken one -- once I improve my job situation, of course. The thing that sticks out to me is that her back should be curved more and her shoulders should twist some, since her left arm is propping her up. That would also make her back start digging into the armrest, so you might have to adjust her futher left to make the pose look more natural. Also, her left thigh would probably be resting on the chair's arm rather than held above it. Overall though that's very well done for someone who's never taken figure drawing.

Yeah, no matter how I adjusted it, something still looked off, so thanks for the pointers! Also, her leg was supposed to be resting against the throne arm, but I just for the life of me couldn't figure out how to make it right! That's why I need to take a life drawing class, I'll wager.
