You may have noticed that this thread now has a shiny new NWS tag in the title, which means you no longer need to link to NWS drawings here! Hooray! To celebrate, this month's theme is THE HUMAN FIGURE! Here's links to help you start out: Reference blogs http://helpyoudraw.tumblr.com/search/anatomy http://senshistock.tumblr.com/ http://art-tutorials.tumblr.com/tagged/anatomy http://learninganatomy.tumblr.com/ http://fyeaharttips.tumblr.com/ http://human-proportions.tumblr.com/ http://art-and-sterf.tumblr.com/ http://ibelievepracticemakesperfect.tumblr.com/search/anatomy http://anatomicalart.tumblr.com/ http://artistresources.tumblr.com/tagged/anatomy Online figure drawing tools http://www.quickposes.com/ http://artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing/ I'll post inspirational figure drawings and talk about theory later in the week, but for now here's a rude nude dude (Caipora for @Sketch_Dailies, inspired by Brazilian street artist Rimon Guimarães) Humboldt Squid fucked around with this message at 09:33 on May 1, 2014 |

Very early stages on planning out my submission for this week's compixellated challenge, the theme was "Deamon girls", so I clicked on a few wiki pages and got Lempo, who was the god of both evil and love in pagan Finnish religion. Also Has moose horns and commands minions called "Piru".

Well, I was hoping to go to my little figure drawing coop this week but it didn't work out, so I'll write about figure drawing instead! The first aspect I'd like to cover is Rhythm. Rhythm (sometimes called movement) in art is kind of a weird concept to get your head around at first, but the music analogy helps. Essentially, it's the repetition of lines (or other design elements) that flow into another in an aesthetically pleasing manner. Here's a website that explains it a little better, and heres a short video explaining it (as it relates to art in general) for us visual learners https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybjNrOArVzA As it relates to figure drawing, rhythm dovetails nicely with concepts like line of action and balance - its the flowing of lines and shapes into one another, here's probably a better explanation Here's a video of a guy who sounds like he's drunk and recording in a tin can, but with good info https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYVNHvOvtAo These are some examples of figure drawings that I think have good rhythm, click for source

meataidstheft posted:Can anyone explain why tangents are bad again? Lines will form tangents in nature, too. Unless it's like crazy distracting I almost never see them. They flatten out the image and kill the illusion of three dimensionality. Also they can confuse things and make the artwork more difficult to understand visually. Plus a lot of the time they look stupid.

CA must have been coded by especially stupid squirrels or something, it's down more than it's up, and when it's up its slow and barely functional.

Daily drawings and doodles, it's right there in the thread title people Anyway the planets aligned and I was able to go to figure drawing tonight! I'll have to take better pictures of them tomorrow when there's plenty of natural light

Better pictures! I'm still having the problem of the lower parts of the drawing ending up distorted when I stand up to draw at my easel (my eye level is pretty much the very top of the page and there's no room to step back and assess proportions in the tiny studio) , but I think there's improvement

I've only been using manga studio for a week or so, but it does seem pretty nice for linework. Also, if you're having problems with lag in PS you probably need more RAM, ps is a ramhog especially with large canvases (I have 8gb and generally don't have a problem, but will probably upgrade to 16 eventually).
