In terms of colour picking, a trick I learned somewhere was to use the Filter > Pixelate > Crystalize to get bigger areas to pick colours from so you don't end up having to pixel-hunt the shade you're looking for.

Depends on what I'm doing. Manga Studio 5 is great for straight-up line work and, like, cel shaded colouring, but for special effects and painterly stuff I prefer PhotoShop CS5.

Oh, wow, it's been a long time since I've drawn anything just for fun or to experiment. Decided to try out a new blending technique I saw yesterday:



That's about a half-hour. The line work was done in Manga Studio 5 and the painting was done in PhotoShop CS5.

I'd guess it helps you get better, uninterrupted lines of motion from the head to the neck to the shoulder and on down the back.
