I thought K-1 was officially dead? Or is Glory still running it sort of?

Really? I've thought the Glory events as of late were pretty good. I'll definitely check that out though since you can't have too much combat sports. Edit - Oh man I missed out on so much K-1 stuff. I remember It's Showtime buying them out a while back but stopped keeping up since when It's Showtime shut down I just assumed everyone moved to Glory or retired. I also remember K-1 adjusting the clinch rules due to Overeem kneeing the ever living poo poo out of people. It was that or it was super close to around that time. Shame it didn't save Zimmerman from death by knees though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhjK3KzSgtY&t=95s

Triticum Guzzler posted:imo kickboxing is really easy to watch as a sport, but really hard to watch as an entertainment product where you have to hunt it down on weird foreign streaming sites like a truffle pig. it's more like bowling where it's very percussive and easy to see and understand what's happening, but occasionally the mafia burn the alley down for insurance money. It's really odd that so many people don't watch kickboxing but hate on MMA for "the gay wrestling stuff." Like you'd imagine someone would swoop in and go "here's some kickboxing, enjoy" because stuff like Glory or whatever have put on decent fights ever once in a while. Spike sort of did that but then did the baffling thing of not re-signing Glory to their broadcast deal. UFC doing the UFC Fight Pass for the GWS though I like and UFC Fight Pass seems to be the go to spot for US people to get all kinds of combat sports stuff (MMA, BJJ, Kickboxing). Captain Log posted:I totally hear what you are saying but after some Muay Thai you'd be amazed how high you can kick on a reflex. I'm amazed more arms aren't broken blocking head kicks. Speaking of Thai kickboxing, I'm going to Bangkok in October and going to hit up Lumpinee because last time I was there I never got to go. Triticum Guzzler posted:Let's be honest about Glory though, a lot of it sucks and it isn't fun or interesting to follow on an ongoing basis I don't think it sucks personally but I can see that argument. The rub is that it's also the biggest named kickboxing org in terms of reaching out to casual fans (eg. me).

I'm relatively newish to the kickboxing scene but is Bellator's Kickboxing stuff just as shady as Bellator MMA has been accused of?

Good to know they haven't changed in pursuit of the new venture then.

Triticum Guzzler posted:What do you mean by shady? If it's about drug testing, nobody in kickboxing ever tests. If it's about contract terms, they're better than Glory. Bellator, allegedly, only does their MMA events on Indian land in the US so they can bypass using the host state's athletic commission which means they can skip all kinds of drug tests, medical testing, etc. and the like. It had come up shortly after Kimbo Slice died and some dodgy non-drug testing medical stuff was allowed to slide that under any SAC would've barred him from fighting. There's other stuff I'm forgetting about. In the US are kickboxing orgs beholden to SACs like MMA are?

Fight Pass is basically the best one stop spot for all kinds of good fights & poo poo. Pretty happy they decided to put it together.

So I was signing up for a Muay Thai gym near me here in South Korea, and one of the posters was for some local televised kickboxing organization. I was curious so I googled it and this was what I found from their most recent event. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6GZpv8skNc It's pretty much peak Korean in terms of halftime entertainment etc. (they do this sort of stuff at baseball games too).

Nice, I'm definitely going to try and catch that K-1 card. Edit - I may have to make catching a live K-1 show a thing to do. I'm only an hour flight from Japan which is like 80 bucks one way. Mekchu fucked around with this message at 00:28 on Apr 22, 2017 |

Well if you want "not Japanese" kickboxing, LionFight is this weekend on AXS TV. Also here's a dumb plug for a Boxing/Kickboxing/Muay Thai training discussion thread I started up because I thought this thread was just for talking about actual fights. Don't know how many of you guys do training but it's worth a shot making a thread for that stuff. https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3818558

Yokkao is smart and puts their stuff on YouTube but they haven't done a thing for a while last I saw. Not too sure anyone cares but Khaos did an event today. Khaos.6 Results are on this page and I'm looking for any of the stream VODs or whatever to link as well. https://www.k-1.co.jp/schedule/16476/ In addition K-1 is doing a 90kg Tournament on the 24th. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_in_K-1#K-1_World_GP_2018_-90kg_World_Tournament Cruiserweight 90 kg (Quarterfinals) - OD-KEN vs. Sina Karimian Cruiserweight 90 kg (Quarterfinals) - K-JEE vs. Brian McGrath Cruiserweight 90 kg (Quarterfinals) - Hitoshi Sugimoto vs. England Aundre Groce Cruiserweight 90 kg (Quarterfinals) - Makoto Uehara vs. Masinissa Hamaili Cruiserweight 90 kg (Reserve) - RUI vs. Furuta Taichi Kind of wish I knew there was an event a bit earlier because I could've gone to Japan for that event.

Yokkao are doing 2 more events, this time in Italy. https://www.yokkao.com/events/yokkao-35-36/ In case you didn't know they're traditional Muay Thai rules and all their fights are free on YouTube a few weeks/month or two after the event happens. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=user?yokkaoboxing?videos

Tenshin/Takeru was a pretty good fight and there were a few moments where it could have gone either way. However 3 rounds seems really criminal. The under card fights were pretty decent too.
