I prefer my stove top espresso. I managed to get a Bialetti mukka express before they stopped selling them. Takes like 4-5 tries to get the hang of packing the coffee in and you get espresso, cappuccino, or a proto-latte in like 4 min. You can also just make it into regular coffee with the Americano method.

It was broken a gently caress and even when it was working it wasn't very good or clear on what you were supposed to do. In other news I managed to get PAXprime 2014 badges. Now I have to get airfare and hotel sorted out.

Question to anyone who knows: What are some good free apps that are similar to those Pocket Operator synths? I wanna mess around with the concept before spending $60 and 3 months of my life waiting for it.

Flipperwaldt posted:Yeah, what is similar, though? You want to mess around with synths and drums, Caustic is pretty great. The demo is free without ads. Doesn't save or export, but keeps what you're working on between sessions. It'll cost you like $7.5 to lift those restrictions, so still not excessive for something you could write an album in. Thanks, this helps. I meant similar in the sense of just simple synth like programs to mess around on. The most complex thing I'd eventually use it for would be into/outro music for youtube videos. Other than that I'm just looking for a time waster. I did pick up Figure by Propellerhead. It's pretty fun.

A big thing to avoid, assuming you don't already, is constantly washing your beard hair. Get it wet, sure but avoid shampooing it every day. Drys everything out too much. Especially in winter which is when you really need those oils.

colas posted:How many times do you old fashioned razor users butcher your faces before getting the hang of it? I heard my grandfather used to nick himself even though that's all he ever used. I kinda wanna try it but I also just got a costco pack of mach 3 refills. They're not nearly as dangerous as you might think. I used my razor for the first time today and only gave myself a tiny nick on my Adam's Apple (but that usually happened with a cart razor as well). There's 3 things you need to keep in mind when using a DE vs. a Cartridge razor: 1) Use a rich, wet, hot lather. So get a shaving brush and real shaving soap. 2) Do not use any pressure. Just let the weight of the razor rest on your face and pull the razor so that the cutting edge is always perpendicular to the direction of movement. Don't got at an angle and don't pull it laterally. That will cut you. 3) This is probably the most important: Use short strokes. You can get away with long stokes with cart razors, but you absolutely cannot with DE razors. At least not without a lot of practice. And you still shouldn't do it because the soap and hair clogs up pretty fast and will add to irritation. Just use short and deliberate strokes. Also keep in mind the direction that the grain of your beard grows in. This is less important if you're doing the previous items unless there's like one spot on your face that grows up your face which would make you shave against the grain randomly.

There's a funny thing about wet shaving with a DE/straight razor that many people don't think about. If you find yourself suffering a lot from razor burn, red bumps, or ingrown hairs using a DE razor is actually better for you. People think it's so much more aggressive and has a greater chance of hurting your face but the system of using extra hydration (with actual loving water an not goop) and multiple passes helps. I should try and introduce my brother to it. He has a lot of problems with irritation.

Even just tossing blades after every use is fine. I just looked up what the "latest and greatest" razors cost: $43 for 12 at walgreens for the fusion carts. At that rate you're still miles ahead of the game ~$100 for a year vs. ~$260(with 5 shaves per cart). I don't think I'm going to bother risking extra shaves just yet so I'll be tossing them every time.
