Normally I press, retract plunger, press, retract plunger and so on until my coffee needs are met. The metal filter removed any possibility of failure among these steps, so far at least. I'm not an expert and if it's working for you that's cool but I don't think reusing the coffee for multiple cups is what you're expected to do - but I've never even considered doing that before. It's like how you wouldn't reuse the coffee you've just used in an espresso machine.
