Baron Snow posted:

No way! He still wears that drat thing? It has to be like 15 years old now! He got a "Get A New Costume" award for that in a masquerade in like 2002!

If it's the same guy I'm thinking of, it's something like 17 at least - I first saw him at a convention in '97, flirting heavily with a sixteen-year-old Lum with her mom right next to her.

Then I found out they were dating. And he was in his twenties. :barf:

(Totally hoping it's not the same guy, but I know it probably is :negative:)

That reminds me, has anyone seen the guy who used to walk around Anime Weekend Atlanta with the Zeon Principality "Buy War Bonds" sign? He got shown on an Adult Swim bumper one year with a "Don't be this guy" caption or something. I used to have a picture of him, but could never find it again, and every place I've found talking about him is either just text or the photos were hosted on sites long gone.

Ugh. Between that and the "indie documentarian" that managed to not get banned from one con I used to go to because his crew's victim was from out of state and didn't want to press charges because she'd have to come back for court, I can't even think ill of cons that crack down on amateur "media producers". Blocking hallways for impromptu "shoots", harassing cosplayers, and generally making asses of themselves - and of course they whine that they're not the ones causing problems when the hammer finally comes down - if the hammer ever loving comes down, which is why I don't go back to the con I mentioned before (too many stories about attendees who should be banned from the premises being allowed to return, even over the objections of state police).

How the hell do you gently caress up that hard?

Compound loving, mostly. First, have a group you're affiliated with be counted as staff, but only give them enough staff badges for half the group, making the rest use volunteer wristbands that don't get them in the door before the con opens. Second, repeatedly take space away from that group while they're doing costume contest pre-judging, making the contest run even later than it was already going to be because the judges won't move things along at a reasonable pace. Then provide them no assistance with changing the room over for the dance despite promising exactly that, making the dance start over an hour late. On top of that, don't hold the convention center to the contract that says that their personnel are to remain on property until the convention closes each night, leaving the dance with no water, and a lot of angry dancers. Tell them up front that they have authority to eject people from the convention, then override every single one of those ejections even when they're caused by attendees breaking the law on convention property and being escorted out by cops. Use all of that when someone gets tackled on the dancefloor to say that "it's a tense situation, and people were on edge, and maybe the staffer was overzealous in ejecting the girl who attacked her", while her mouthy friend who wasn't even there tries to claim that you can't legally tell people they can't swing glowsticks on metal chains (the same metal chains the ejected girl claims were cut with scissors). Then you decide that since it's almost time for the convention to close for the night, you don't want to deal with it anymore and cave in because you're too afraid of bad press about your con, and most people who were there and saw poo poo go down (like the previous year's sexual assault by the "indie" guy and his crew) don't feel like they can talk about it without hiding behind anonymity and a whole lot of abstraction.

Fake edit: holy gently caress :words:.

Actual edit: Oh, and everything before someone getting tackled on the dancefloor? Happened each of the three years I worked that con.

Nah, couldn't really tell if the guy was going along with it or just trying to be restrained about it. I'm probably just jaded from having seen people do poo poo like this without having anyone else in on the joke, including stuff that gets them thrown out or arrested. Too many years staffing cons.

(Though the year a sheriff got arrested was kind of interesting, at least - and I don't mean someone dressed as a sheriff.)

If everyone's in on it, then I'm laughin'.

To be fair, Michonne's pet walkers have been shown with sagged jeans in a few places, including a shot of the actors as well as the action figures. Of course, since her pets lack lower jaws, they had to attempt to replicate that look as well, managing instead to look from a distance like they have huge protruding lower lips. Doesn't look like a walking zombie minstrel show at all, no!

That is heavily photoshopped so unless you can find the source of the picture it's kind of a crapshoot whether it's actually a Cortana cosplay or just somebody photoshopping a stock photo of a naked lady holding a gun in to Cortana. The head also looks pasted on, so I'd bet on the latter.

If you do a GIS for that image, there are like four others of her in various poses. It's almost definitely a cosplay from that alone.

I've mostly heard the use of liquid latex as used with shredded toilet paper for burn scars, since it doesn't have the pucker factor that collodion does. But that's just what I've heard from people in cosplay threads, so I might be wrong!

The need to condemn the attention someone is getting as being only because they're attractive can be as bad as aggressively sexualizing a woman.

Dead-on. Slut-shaming is just the other side of objectification. It's one thing to point out that some cosplayers (male and female!) needlessly sexualize characters specifically to garner attention based on their looks rather than the quality of their costume (or to point out that one of them sexualized a child rape victim), it's another to say "tits out = attention whore".

And who gives a gently caress if they do?

Yeah, just to clarify on a prior post, I usually don't mind outside of the rare case where someone's sexy cosplay is disturbing (like the aforementioned Sexy Child Rape Victim cosplay). If it's a really lovely cosplay that's just "look at me; I'm mostly naked" with no other redeeming qualities, well - poo poo, there are enough booth babes throughout the history of cons that my only reaction these days is just "eh, cute person, bad costume" and move on.
