Wildstar is a new action-oriented MMO that takes place on the newly discovered planet Nexus, developed by Carbine; a studio founded by 17 members of the core vanilla WoW team. There's opposing factions, really unique races, a combat system involving telegraphs (), a path system to point people towards the content they enjoy, player housing, and the whole thing looks like a Pixar movie. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Combat Combat in Wildstar is done differently from your standard MMO fare. It's not tab-targeting, and it's not hack n' slash; it's done through telegraphs. Wildstar's combat system gives you plenty to do. The ability to end CC prematurely, like picking up a weapon after being disarmed, breaking a tether anchor on the ground, and holding movement keys to end stuns. Dashing and rolling to get out of telegraphs that you wouldn't be able to walk out of. And most importantly, almost everything is mobile. Have some videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnmlSU_nTi0 Crowd Control Aiming ______________________________________________________________________________________ What about Raiding? Raiding in Wildstar is a 20 and 40 man affair. Your first steps are into Genetic Archives, a 20 man raid with 2-3 tanks, 4-5 healers, and 12-14 dps. Featuring Bosses, minibosses, challenges, and Base Population (Fancy words for trash), the instances are an affair into practicing loot management. At the end of Genetic Archives, every member should have gotten 1-3 pieces of loot for a full clear. After you tackle Genetic Archives, you get to go into the Big Boy Raid, Datascape. Datascape is a 40 man raid with x tanks, x healers, and x dps. Again, the loot is set up to give every player at least one item a run. Bosses, minibosses, challenges, and rooms-that-are-bosses await you in this Tron/Molten Core hybrid Devspeak https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbItL4qcugk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te1O4bgzlTA ______________________________________________________________________________________ Warplots Warplots are essentially Aggressive Housing. You have a 40 man team that builds a floating sky fortress, complete with raid bosses, robot cannons, gigantic rocket launchers, and tanks used as defenses. After building your Doom House, you slap it down in a warzone against another 40 man team, collecting resources to power your defenses while trying to invade and blow up the enemy Warplot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cWhaTldG3k ______________________________________________________________________________________ Housing Housing gives you neat little benefits like improved rested experience, modified dungeons, passive gathering nodes, skateparks, and general housing fuckery you've probably seen in other housing areas in MMOs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcZTiJOYrcY ______________________________________________________________________________________ Factions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fn8648VGMKM Exile Gameplay Video Races http://wildstar-online.com/en/game/races/ ______________________________________________________________________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FhB3iYv4Ng Dominion Gameplay Video Races http://wildstar-online.com/en/game/races/ ______________________________________________________________________________________ Classes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCaIxmffFWY ______________________________________________________________________________________ Paths https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmCyPXv5APY Your path is a choice made at character creation which determines what extra content the world dishes up for you. Generally, they respond to the player personalities in the Bartle test (killer, explorer, socializer, etc). But don't just take my word for it, read this Polygon Article on Wildstar's paths. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Adventures Adventures are 5-man, instanced versions of open world zones that are a mini-choose-your-own-adventure games. You start with a scenario in a zone, like a prison riot, a caravan escort, etc. and you periodically choose how to continue at certain parts of the map. For example, with the prison riot Adventure, you can choose to stop a bunch of Espers from breaking out of their cryopods, or go secure the armory from a bunch of angry Granok, etc. Adventures are very good for experience; in the first Adventure at level 15 I managed to hit level 17 from the mob experience. Adventure time appears to be about 20-40 minutes a run, depending on your party. The Pricing Plan Wildstar will have a typical subscription system, but with the added layer of the C.R.E.D.D. system, which is somewhat similar to EVE's PLEX. Players will essentially be able to earn currency in-game that they can then sell for gold to other players, allowing them to pay for time. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Alright, I'm convinced. I approve of the thread title! And of the Dominion. Do you want to be hillbilly, hippie, bunnygirl/elf/anime hybrids or totally badass space empire robots? Alternately, evil genius hamsters. You know the answer.

Do we really need to be faction specific? Why not just have both factions be populated with goons so everyone gets to do what they please. Basically what I'm saying is I absolutely want to play a space hillbilly.

As cool as the Granok are, the idea of playing with anyone who would roll an Aurin (ironically or otherwise) makes me physically ill so its Dominion all the way. The real question is, PvE or PvP server?

Open world PvP is way more fun and breaks up the monotony of collecting space bear asses. We really need it for this game since the questing is so generic and uninspired.

This, definitely. I have no idea how far along the line you'll be questing alongside the opposing faction though. Regarding keys, this is from the open beta announcement page: quote:From May 8th to May 18th, you will be able to visit our Open Beta page to request a key, and then hop into WildStar to experience content up to level 30. If you have already participated in any other WildStar beta event, including beta weekends and stress tests, you don’t need a new key. Just patch up, and you’re good to go!

As far as factions go I prefer Exiles but I'd be willing to play Dominion. But as far as PvE vs PvP servers it's PvE all the way for me, if goons decide to play on a PvP server then I'll just play somewhere else. I want to get my leveling done without everyone who thinks it's a laugh riot to one shot people 30 levels lower than them making the experience as excruciating as possible.

Weird that the EU side has so few votes for faction but like 30 odd for PvP. I guess being on a PvP server versus a PvE server is more important than what faction we play for most people. What are the PvP servers even like in this - is it more like EQ2 where the majority of the PvP occurs outside or is it like WoW where for the most part the only PvP takes place with much higher levels attacking lowbies and barely any other confrontation? The questing zones start to intermingle around level 22 - the first shared quest hub is in that zone (and it also happens to sit right next to the entrance to the level 35 dungeon There's is also a quest in that zone that can be completed with just PVP Every zone afterward is contested But it remains to be seen what that results in My PVP experience in Whitevale when I first started was actually quite fun (even though, at the time the server was PVE ruleset and it was just fighting flagged players) When Nexus went PVP for a week - I had fun fighting some impromptu PVP battles while doing some L50 dailies

Deceptive Thinker posted:The questing zones start to intermingle around level 22 - the first shared quest hub is in that zone (and it also happens to sit right next to the entrance to the level 35 dungeon When you say contested though - is it totally open, it doesn't care what level you are? In EQ2 it was restricted and the restriction got lifted at the higher level zones. So in the 20-70 level zones it was ten levels, past 60 it was unrestricted, this is when the level cap was 70. Meaning that you could only bum around killing level 20s if you were level 30 at the maximum. It feels like this solution has never even been considered by most developers, but it meant you almost always got a decent fight if PvP did come up and the higher levels knew where to go to find other higher levels to fight.

Having the buff stations (especially run speed) available at all times is really nice. He also helped make a quest hub area where we got an extra quest which was pretty cool. All in all though it is probably the most 'Thankless' of the paths. You make stuff to help people but don't really interact with them after you do it. If the thought of knowing you made the questing experience for somebody else easier is appealing to you then Settler is a good option in my opinion.

poptart_fairy posted:Is there a more advanced description of the Settler path anywhere? Official info just seems to hype it up without going into detail about the mechanics or how useful I'd be to people. Settlers gather scraps from around the zones. They're easily noticeable due to there being a Settler icon that hovers above them. You use these scraps to build buff stations in designated areas at each questing hub. These buffs include: +XP, +Health, +Resistance, +Crit, +Shield, +Run Speed, +Physical/Magical/Tech damage, etc., and they last for 15-30 minutes each. Also some hubs have temporary speeders that Settlers can build that can get you to other quest hubs quicker, like a mini flight point. Also there are major projects at some of the quest hubs that require a lot of gathering from Settlers to complete (or you can do it yourself but it takes a while). Usually it's like gathering 100 items from within the hub, and you can only carry 5 at a time to bring to the project manager. The projects are usually an additional quest hub and bounty board and some merchants. Around the hubs you'll also find little things to repair that give you reputation points for the zone's main reputation. Like 5 rep per item you repair I think. The Settler abilities are nifty too, including one that lets you drop a vendor that repairs. Another one is a camp fire that increases health regen (only works out of combat) and you can right-click the fire for an additional buff (I think it's a health buff?). Cooldowns on your abilities get shorter as you level the path.
|
# ? May 8, 2014 13:55 |
Yeah, Settlers are super useful to everyone, plus if you go settler you don't have to depend on someone else for the buff stations. I prefer explorer personally, because it's fun to find these weird out of the way locations and get rewards for doing so. Just don't go settler if you don't like clicking on a bunch of extra stuff on the ground.
