So I picked up Gundam Breaker recently (because I'm a massive Gundam nerd, also because I played the beta/demo/whatever it is and really enjoyed it), is there anything I should know before I start playing?

It's inferior to EXVS. Hope this helps!

Literally the only thing that can decide my enjoyment of an entire RPG trilogy is how much I like or dislike the artist who does the character designs? Looking his stuff up on Google, it's not exactly polarizing. Just fairly standard fantasy-esque pretty anime girl art. Is that really all this series has to offer?

Pretty much! They're generic RPGs with no real redeeming values outside of his art. I played Hearts on emulator a bit - a guy washed ashore found by a girl* gets taken into town and cared for, only to discover he has amnesia, and after the settling in period the player has to eventually go around fighting enemies and doing errands to raise your trust with the townsfolk (fetch quests). Rather generic, I gave up after about 20 minutes. (*girl of your choice, of course)

But yeah like I said, Tony Taka is popular and these games sell because of it. She ain't no Shining Force if that's what you're thinking.

So I bought the Japanese version of Atelier Totori, which comes with a 20 digit (XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX) product code for a custom theme, does anyone know how to actually input 20 digits into PSN? Because it only lets me input 12 digits (XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) on Vita, PS3, and the SEN store.

Nevermind, the 20 digit code is for a URL which doesn't even exist any more. It has been lost to time.

So basically, unless someone uploads the theme, the Atelier Totori Sofmap custom theme is unobtainable. Brilliant way to preserve history, digital world.

The PS3 port was pretty bad, it lacked a lot of facial expressions which were in the doujin version. Actually it really feels like the series gets progressively worse with each chapter, oh well.

EDIT Never mind, I misread and thought they were selling point cards and not just subscription cards. So I echo the above two posters, really annoying that importing physical discs is like $20+ cheaper in most cases.

EDIT also if you really want a metal slime PS4, Amazon.jp has one left at normal price :v:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%BD%E...%83%B3%E3%83%88

Normal price is 49,980 though.

These are not very refined opinions, as far as I'm concerned anyone who makes a "review" of a game before completing the game shouldn't waste their time. I saw one review which started off with "Played for about 10 hours" -- then why review it at this stage?

The same thing happened with Xillia and Xillia 2. Graces F pissed off original Wii owners, Vesperia PS3 pissed off original 360 buyers, Xillia pissed people off because it was rushed, Xillia 2 pissed people off because it reused a lot from Xillia... etc. Like Falcom totally didn't do that for about a decade with one engine, right? You just can't win with the Tales fanbase, they always have something to complain about.

I'm only a few hours into Z but I like it so far. Although I really wish this game were reserved for PS4 (no, I don't have one yet, but I will in March) because I've kind of "moved on" from PS3 stuff.

There are very few games I've played where my gaming experience with it suddenly changed drastically after 10 hours of gameplay, save for games with randomly terrible endings or, I dunno, Brutal Legend, maybe. At 10 hours, you get the gist of nearly everything, from characters to story to mechanics.

It is not reasonable to require a full video game's total completion before they are allowed to say things about it.

...it's a 50-60 hour specifically story-focused Japanese role-playing game. If someone reviews it 10 hours in it's not really much to go by.

What you're asking for is pretty much impossible with games and games journalism being what it is currently, not to mention that "am I having fun" is a question you should be able to answer long before hour 10 rolls around. I'm not disagreeing with you, mind you, reviewers should be able to spend the proper time on a game review and get paid properly for it, but that's sadly never going to happen.

I understand what you're saying, but I'm not talking about "paid reviews" or "games journalism". I'm talking about 1-star Zestirtia reviews on Amazon.jp which everyone is blowing out of proportion. I'm not interested in reading some guy's 10 hour experience before he got bored and quit. That's just one guy and his small experience of the game. It doesn't matter if he compared the entire game to Xillia. I'm not interested in whether he's going to resell the game to Book-Off tomorrow, it doesn't matter. These aren't reviews, they aren't telling you about the actual game, they're more like small opinion pieces by people who don't know how to review things properly. Here's a better idea: watch someone stream the game, there's plenty of people streaming it right now. Decide for yourself instead of letting the noise get to you.

Like I said, I'm enjoying Zestiria so far and I don't understand what the big deal is. But like I said, this happens with almost every Tales release. It happens every time.

That review is weird. He's been playing since the first MH? Did he not play 2nd G? Does he not realize how time consuming Frontier is? Doesn't he realize that they've actually made the games easier with things like group sorting and lock-on targeting?

Oh gently caress it I'll just pester a friend in Japan once I really need to.

Also why does Disgaea 5 come out the same week as Bloodborne, that seems like a terrible idea.

Sofmap sells them without markup:

http://www.sofmap.com/product_detail/exec/_/sku=11290360/-/gid=GF08020000/-/eVar4=WVPT 10,000 yen card
http://www.sofmap.com/product_detail/exec/_/sku=10851347/-/gid=GF08020000 5000 yen card
http://www.sofmap.com/product_detail/exec/_/sku=10851346/-/gid=GF08020000/-/eVar4=WBADD 3000 yen card

1:1, just like buying on JP PSN with a credit card, absolutely no tax. Probably the best method out there unless someone else knows of a better place to buy them from.
