Pretty much every Mitsuda JRPG soundtrack is pure gold. Xenogears and his contributions to Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 especially.

Motoi Sakuraba's Baten Kaitos soundtracks also have some absolutely incredible material, no matter what you think of his work on the Tales games.

Good choices. Sakuraba does have a distinctive style that can be bit repetitive but Baten Kaitos was a true thing of beauty.

Baten Kaitos, Chrono Cross, Xenogears - my favorite JRPG OSTs of all time.

The Best Is Yet To Come from Metal Gear Solid
Can't Say Goodbye To Yesterday from Metal Gear Solid 2

My favorite ending theme ever is MGS2's. Sons of Liberty has a lot of great music.
Arsenal's Gear - The perfect theme for the best part of the game.
Olga Boss Music - MGS2 has a ton of great tracks that weren't released on the official OST and you have to get from gamerips.

But in spite of how great all the soundtracks to all Metal Gear games are, none will ever surpass the original Metal Gear Solid for me.
Rex's Lair - It's more like a final dungeon theme in a JRPG. I love it.
Enclosure - AKA the reason most give a poo poo about Wolf's death.
Escape - "Not yet, Snake! It's not over yet!" How the loving hell did you survive again, Liquid???

I could talk about Xenosaga's fantastic OSTs now I guess but I'd like to address a more underrated OST. It's one of my favorite video game soundtracks ever - Onimusha: Warlords.
Rising Sun 1st Movement
Samanosuke Theme
Waterfall Mountain - This one is just unforgettably beautiful and unique considering this was a hack-and-slash horror game.
Kaede Theme
Onimusha(Demon Warrior) - For me, one of the best final boss themes in anything.

Also, I'd like to ask this question of you all.
Favorite SNK Soundtrack? I can't pick one...

So I'm actually gonna make a request for music here.

My girlfriend loves Dragon Age and wants me to play Inquisition. But, to do that, I think it' sa smart idea to play the first two DA games.

I've heard a lot about Dragon Age (and Mass Effect) of course but I can't recall ever reading a post about the music in the games. Is it any good?

Time for me to endorse my Xenosaga Love.

Episode 1 was composed by Yasunori Mitsuda of Chrono Cross and Xenogears fame. He also had the London Philharmonic Orchestra at his disposal for the soundtrack.

Beach of Nothingness - I think everyone should listen to this one at least. It's so beautiful.
Gnosis - An appropriately awesome theme for invading, invincible space monsters.
Nephilim
Pain - If you remember the credits theme of Xenogears, Xenosaga has a song that can rival it. Mitsuda composed both and they even got the same singer back. I loved that detail.

Now Episode III was composed by Yuki Kajiura who apparently has quite a rep with anime fans. I can see why after hearing this amazing soundtrack.

Testament
Godsibb
Assault - The "dungeon theme" for the best part of teh game. This song is a big reason it's the best part.
Hepatica (KOS-MOS) - There is nothing sadder than two cyborg girls going at it.
Outrageous - It's so nice of Ms. Kajiura to go back and give Weltall such a great theme.

So I know the Internet has a hate boner for anything David Cage but I just played Heavy Rain for the first time and say what you will about the story, characters, voice-acting, etc. but I loved the OST to pieces.

It's sad that the composer passed away. RIP.

I just played Mass Effect 1 and 2 for the first time and this song was hands down my favorite of the series thus far:

It made every battle so amazingly intense. Escaping Prometheus Station was the highlight of the DLC.

Regardless of what anyone says about Star Ocean: The Last Hope I liked the music. Even some reviews of the OST I've read where the reviewer was "tired of Sakuraba's style" found stuff to love in this OST.

A Place For Reflection - The song that plays on your spaceship. I loved just listening to this.
Silk Road in the Sky I - An appropriately majestic and grand theme for the human race's first steps on a new home world.
Silk Road in the Sky II - ...or not. The transition in game really is one of my favorite parts of the story. It has excellent atmosphere.

Symetry - An actual dungeon theme. I liked it a lot.
Brilliant Rose - Final Dungeon Theme. My favorite Sakuraba final dungeon theme to date.

For Achieve - Easily my favorite battle theme in the game. A lot of the world and locations have unique battle themes and that is one thing I loved about the game. Having this awesome rendition of SO1's battle theme play while you are on Roak was a really cool move.
Don't Be A Hero - My other favorite battle theme. Plays during one of the hardest fights in the game.
I Do, Therefore I Am - God I loved this boss theme. The slow, ominous nature of it contrasted with SO4's high speed gameplay really did wonders for making the bosses feel...imposing.

Yin and Yang - The best emotional piece in the game.
Harlequin's Slumber - An emotional piece of a more haunted sort.

So I'm continuing with trying new WRPG series and I decided to try the Fable Trilogy next.

In spite of its...subjective quality in terms of story/gameplay/whatever, I've always heard good things about the music. This true?

Baten Kaitos - To The End of the Journey of Glittering Stars - Motoi Sakuraba

Another sentimental favorite, partly because this is the #1 game of a close friend of mine. Definitely Motoi Sakuraba's best soundtrack, by far.

Always warms my heart to see love for this great underrated game with its great underrated OST.

I have yet to find a "normal battle theme" better than The True Mirror.

In JRPG news, I have a question. I'm gonna be starting the Dragon Quest series for the first time in September. Do any of those games have any soundtracks that stand out?
