File Select from Paper Mario And The Thousand Year Door might win the award for the greatest video game song stuck in the most remote part of the game. You'll only hear it if you let the game sit on the file select screen but drat is it worth it. File Select is one of the most perfect and top-tappingly catchy songs in video game history. The whole soundtrack was top notch but I'll link some of my favourites: Story Of The Thousand-Year Door Rogueport Sewers Battle (I always love Mario RPG battle themes get you pumped but are at the same time, very bouncy and light-hearted) Event Battle

NikkolasKing posted:Regardless of what anyone says about Star Ocean: The Last Hope I liked the music. Even some reviews of the OST I've read where the reviewer was "tired of Sakuraba's style" found stuff to love in this OST. I'm one of those jokers that thinks Sakuraba's a bland composer but I have a couple favourites of his. Expiration from Star Ocean 3 is very much a Sakuraba track but it stands out. Rust Color on the other hand is very unlike Sakuraba's style replacing progressive rock with a folky acoustic vibe.

Lone Survivor had some really atmospheric music that fell in the middle ground between ambient and indie rock. Home is perfect for the schizophrenic apocalyptic feel the story was going for. Sleep Forever was used in one of the trailers and is pretty striking.

I've been playing a lot of Freedom Planet lately and if nothing else it has an absolutely dynamic soundtrack. Main Theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tei9eGf8tDs Relic Maze 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqNzil8NuY4 Fortune Night 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWiIaq5yCaE

Final Fantasy XII disappointed a lot of fans with its more traditional soundtrack composed by Hiroshi Sakimoto, but I think it was great for reflecting the sophisticated tone of the game with a few standout tracks. The game opens with what I think is the best version of the Final Fantasy theme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVhkE8em0WI Rabanastre Downtown is one of the more unique selections on the soundtrack, driven by what sounds like hand drums and maracas rather than strings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMgLuY6bNds Time For Rest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUp46wc9d0Y Esper Battle is easily the catchiest song in the game and is great for amping up boss battles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVYHhcYWttY Sky Fortress Bahamut is a great final dungeon theme. It avoids the typically dreaded tones of most final dungeons themes and instead goes for a heroic and triumphant feel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVDTwxjcV9s The game finishes with Kiss Me Goodbye, a vocal pop song composed by the original Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZI3daqEsC6Q

Would I have liked Freedom Planet as much if the soundtrack wasn't amazing? No. The title theme is pitch-perfect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tei9eGf8tDs The first stage music is a masterstroke: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVwPZNPt1fc Killer electric guitar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqNzil8NuY4 My favourite track. That main melody is unforgettable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWiIaq5yCaE
