I'm going to assume Nobuo Uematsu hasn't been mentioned yet because everyone posting is intimately familiar with his work, yes? Composed the first 9 Final Fantasies, was in The Black Mages and Earthbound Papas?

Would this be the thread to discuss VG cover bands? The Minibosses especially? Actually, I have a few new favorites:

Extremely clean production and fantastic arrangements. Probably helps that I've played most of the Kirby games.

Much more hit and miss, but when it hits it's excellent. Not a single good Dark Lich cover though. :(

That last one reminded me of some stuff I've got lurking in YouTube favourites after searching for chip tunes. These two bands have more or less the same sound, so it may be an entire genre that I've just scratched the surface off. They both find the common ground between the cheerful melodies of early 90s shoot-em-up themes and melodic punk and turn it into something pretty beautiful.

Check out http://disasterpeace.com/music if you haven't already, specifically the soundtracks to Jammage the Jam Mage and Atebite and the Warring Nations. They're near the bottom of the page, but some of my favorite chip and even has real percussion accompaniment!

Do you like pianos? Do you like old Square JRPGs? Here is my favorite piano dude: his name is kLuTz. He has only made four songs, but they are all incredible.

Final Fantasy IV - Tale in Piano
Chrono Trigger - Town Life in Piano
Chrono Trigger - 600 A.D. in Piano
Final Fantasy VII - A World of Piano

I am so stoked to check these out, thanks!
