Kratos's whole deal, in every game, is killing a shitload of randos because he's a loser or because his son is a loser. Videogame Eliot Rodger, basically.

Back in the nineties I remember my friend playing Marathon with a control scheme where movement was mapped to the mouse while look was mapped to KB, so he was constantly picking his mouse up just to move forward, weird poo poo.

In Lies of P you have a meter called Fable that you use to do special moves on your weapons. This meter does not recharge when you use a Stargazer to rest, unlike your health and Legion meter (which is the meter to use your fancy gadget arms), you can only build it back with one time consumable items or beating up enemies in combat. There's even nodes in the skill tree thing to give you back some Fable meter when you die so you aren't back to zero.

This is all completely loving pointless bullshit because if you're willing to teleport to Hotel Krat (the hub area like Majula or Firelink) you can walk into the little weapon trial area and have your Fable meter maxed out for free. It doesn't reset when you leave it either, so why the gently caress does it not just refill at Stargazers? loving infurating idiot design poo poo.

There's also those cube consumables you have to recharge by going to some tree that grows in real time as you play the game. They're even worded in a way that makes it look like they replenish when you go to a bonfire, but they don't! You have to go back to the hotel, walk over to the garden, gather poo poo from the tree (if enough time has passed), and then buy more from the npc. Also the tree can only grow so much at once so the game is encouraging you to go back every half hour or so to not waste tree growth. You can completely ignore this system and be fine, but that doesn't excuse putting such a poo poo system in your game.

ToME 4 is like the only game I can think of that has fully realized that that kind of one-time use consumable just sucks.

The obvious solution to the yellow paint thing is to not fill your game with terrible glorified QTE traversal sections. Of course then lovely third person AAA games would need to figure out something else to fill out 70% of their runtime. Was their anyone who wanted more climbing sections in an FF7 remake?

Having played The Witcher 2 and Xenoblade 2, what other games have the absolute worst User Interface?
Examples of Bad UI:
  • The map doesn't account for elevation or blocked paths. The cursor points to an impassible mountain range but not the cave mouth that leads the way.
  • You have to buy or create items one at a time.
  • It takes far more clicks than necessary to equip a hat or drink a potion.
  • A lot of real-estate is used up on the screen, despite the features being irrelevant most of the time.
  • You can't save any loadouts in a game about customization.
  • By the time you notice a quest update it's already gone.
  • You don't notice the danger because the hazard symbol is microscopic.

How about the crafting in the PSP Tactics Ogre remake? Crafting a sword required you to refine various materials dozens of times, one at a time, and you had to watch this cauldron jiggle for a few seconds each time. I hope the redid this for the recent remake.
