Stalker - 1979

This movie pretty much proves that you don't really need anything but a good location, and a good eye to make a fantastic movie. I feel that since it's release, it's yet to be matched by anything in terms of general mood and cinematography.

From what I hear, the whole movie was originally shot on experimental film stock that got damaged during the developing process, and Tarkovsky had to go back and reshoot the whole thing all over.

On a different note, Kin-Dza-Dza and Ivan Vasilyevich are both classics, but two Mosfilm movies that will always have my heart are The Diamond Arm (Бриллиантовая Рука) and The White Sun of the Desert (Белое Солнце Пустыни)

Both are on the Mosfilm channel. The White Sun of the Desert being a unique Soviet take on a spaghetti western.
